Comics Percy Carey: MAYHEM! Party Pics & Tyrese Marvel Rumors

TEAM MAYHEM! Creators Tone Rodriguez, Mike Le, William Wilson, and Tyrese Gibson with Percy Carey

[Each week, Complex columnist Percy Carey a.k.a. MF Grimm dives into the world of comic books with industry interviews, reviews and more. All MF Grimm music can now be purchased on Itunes]

Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m going to keep it short this week because I’m still recuperating from the Tyrese Gibson’s MAYHEM! launch party. Tyrese, you are the muthafuckin’ man! It was an amazing event filled with celebrities, great people, beautiful women all around and good food and (did I forget to say beautiful women all around?) I kicked it with the MAYHEM! creators Tyrese Gibson, Mike Le, William Wilson and the legendary Mr. Tone Rodriguez at Lucky Strike (LA Live). I even had an opportunity to sit down one on one with my friend, director/executive producer Micheal Bay (Transformers 1 and 2).

I won’t lie to you, I was suppose to cover the event, but I was too busy being interviewed by the press and partying. I let you down, Complex readers (blame it on the alcohol), but in my defense, you have not partied until you’ve hung out with Tila Tequila and ElectrikRed (I just couldn’t help myself…could you?). Tyrese, you sure know how to throw a party, my brother!. I can’t wait for the Tyrese Gibson’s MAYHEM! party at San Diego Comic Con JULY 2009—it’s going to be off the chain. Now, readers, although I was slacking because of macking, I still didn’t forget you (we’re family): I have some wonderful shots from the event for you to check out. Enjoy…

Comics Percy Carey: Marketing Mastermind Reggieknow

Do you remember those Sprite commercials in the '90s with Large Pro, Bambaataa, Common and others? When I saw those commercials, I remember feeling like hip-hop finally was getting respect it was due. Although I never met the creator of the commercials, I knew the person who created them had a love for hip-hop that equaled mine (if not more) and I always wanted to meet the mastermind behind those ads and thank him.

Reggieknow was the person who started that creative revolution (Reggie also designed the label for Vitamin Water) and it was a pleasure meeting him recently. I’m sure you’ll feel the same way once you read this interview…

Comics Percy Carey: Arrested Development, The Comic?

percy_willarnettmain.jpg
[Each Wednesday, Complex columnist Percy Carey a.k.a. MF Grimm dives into the world of comic books with industry interviews, reviews and more.]

If you know anything about me, then you have to know that Arrested Development is my all time favorite television show; and when Fox chose to cancel the show, I found that to be the stupidest move ever by a network (Please give me the name of the jackass who made that executive decision?). Well, after a long period of depression (due to my lack of having the Bluth family to laugh at), I was informed that Arrested Development was going to become an actual full-length featured film. It was rumored there were a few slight hold ups due to negotiations, (that’s expected) but just knowing that there was a chance to see something new from Ron Howard, and the brilliant minds who write and cast on that show, made life a little better for me.

As I was hanging out at Meltdown a few weeks back, I noticed there were a large amount of television shows that were now comic books (which I think is cool), and gave me an idea; I said to myself, What if I transform my favorite television show into a comic book?

[Each week, Complex columnist Percy Carey a.k.a. MF Grimm dives into the world of comic books with industry interviews, reviews and more.]

Since so many properties out there are merging the lines of media, I’d like to point out a few that should make that jump. So, in true Letterman style, I will be bringing you the top ten reasons why TV shows, movies, and other such things should become comics.

So this week, we start with a TV show that has been saved from the fire not once but twice: when it was remade from the original version, and then again when the network decided to revitalize it instead of canceling it. So without further adieu, I give you my top ten reasons why Knight Rider should become a comic book…

Comics Percy Carey’s Comic Book Corner: ‘UTF’ Review

percy_utf_review.jpg[Each Wednesday, Complex columnist Percy Carey a.k.a. MF Grimm dives into the world of comic books with industry interviews, reviews and more.]

UTF (Undead Task Force) is the story of a government group with the sole intent of destroying the things that go bump in the night. They take out, obviously, the undead, in all forms. The team is shown starting with a nest of zombies before being called in to deal with a swarm of vampires. It’s a task force that his been in place for apparently the better part of a century, if not longer, and includes such members as Lee Harvey Oswald (because apparently in the UTF universe, Kennedy didn’t quite have a pulse, unless he wasn’t the target…) and, possibly Poncho Villa. So, enough with the background, on to the comic…

Comics Percy Carey: Getting To Know Angie GoGo

percy_angiegogo_lead.jpg
[Each Wednesday, Complex columnist Percy Carey a.k.a. MF Grimm dives into the world of comic books with industry interviews, reviews and more.]

I had always heard that women don’t go to comic book stores. If you’re very, very lucky, you might catch a glimpse of one out of the corner of your eye. But in a stroke of luck, not only did I catch a glimpse, but I met one.

Angie Mach, affectionately called Angie GoGo, is not only a comic book fan, nigh a geek, but she is also one of the most striking women I have ever met. She’s an avid reader, a deep-seated gamer, an aspiring actress, and now a good friend of mine. We sat down to talk about her love of comics. And remember you comic book geeks…I AM YOUR GOD!!

Steve Niles single-handily re-invented the genre of comic book horror. Steve’s books are the only thing able to scare Bonecrusher. Sit back and learn more about the living legend and see what he’s up to next…
