As the NFL finishes week 5 of action, the league has had its share of embarrassing teams (word to last year’s 0-16 Lions). The Rams, Titans, Panthers, and others are all sucking out loud right now, but no team has even come close to the on-and off-field fuckery of the Oakland Raiders. Since 2002, the pitiful squad has set a record for most consecutive seasons with 11 losses or more. Not bad for a crew whose official motto is “Commitment to Excellence”—and with yesterday’s 44-7 loss to the Giants, it looks like the Raiders plan on continuing the bullshit for a while.
From owner-vs.-coach public feuds to teammate assaults and intrastaff jawbreakers (no Wonka), the team itself boasts behavior far more self-ethering than their GWAR-tribute fanbase. Which is why we’ve taken a quick break from tallying JaMarcus Russell’s wobbliest pass attempts to compile our list of the most embarrassing Raider moments of the decade. Enjoy!

Raiders coach Tom Cable lets assistant Randy Hanson assist him as a punching bag.
If football coaches could draw roughing penalties, Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable might have just had a flag thrown his way. Based on Napa police reports and snitches, the massive former NFL offensive lineman got pissed off at his assistant Randy Hanson and punched him in the face on the fifth of August, sending him to the hospital with a jaw injury. Cable and the Raiders have denied this, and other snitches now say that indeed no punches were thrown—Cable just pulled a chair out from under Hanson, causing him to break a facial bone when his cheek hit a filing cabinet. Much better.
Of course, Cable isn’t the first coach to flip out on a fellow coach or assistant. Oftentimes it happens behind closed doors, but some classic outbursts have been captured on film and photograph. Complex hits you square in the nose with some of the more memorable ones. BOOM! POW!

At least Jamarcus Russell’s shoe game is right-side up.
Imagine our surprise when we got the papers this morning and learned that Sarah Palin thinks Africa is a country! Just kidding, we already knew she was that dumb. No, the real shock this morning was reading USA Today and discovering that the Oakland Raiders have the highest payroll in the NFL this year.
That’s right, the same 2-6 Raiders who managed 77 total yards in a 24-0 home loss to Atlanta this past weekend have a total payroll of $152.4 million (by contrast, the Falcons’ total is $96.4). Which begs the question: Is that the worst waste of money in sports history? Read on for a sport-by-sport breakdown…
