Design Nokia Cranks Up Music Inspired Headphone Designs

nokialead.jpg
Putting the power of design in the hands of the consumer has its strengths and weaknesses. It’s an opportunity for unknown designers to get some shine, but sadly sub-par concepts and uninspired execution usually overshadow the real talent. But damn, we can’t hate on the left-field designs that have come out of Nokia’s Music Almighty Headset Competition this week.

The Finnish company called on consumers to put a music-inspired spin on their line of Bluetooth earphones, using tools provided on the website like beaming lights, interchangable colors, and decorative characters. The five winners will actually be manufactured as one-of-ones and will be displayed in select retail locations. Check out designs inspired by Jay-Z, MGMT and Santogold below…

Technology Meet Nokia’s Jeppe Video Conferencing Pet

nokiajeppe.jpg
Video chatting is so uptight. If you don’t want to be stationed directly in front of your computer, your only real option is to use a camera with an internet phone service like Skype. Luckily, video conferencing just got a lot more fun with the Nokia Jeppe, a remote controlled mobile webcam designed to feel like a pet.

The brains at the Nokia Research Centre Smart Spaces lab recently built the small wonder as part of an initiative to make video conferencing easier. With a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet in hand, the user can control where the little guy moves to on its two wheels. While it’s still in research and development, you can check out the demo below.
