Style The 15 Best Varsity Jackets For Fall 2009

lead5
For our latest “best” list, we had to take it back—yep, back to the good ol’ high school days, when social status was everything. (Things haven’t changed much, huh? *SMH*) We remember being brand-new freshmen trying to figure out the best way to become part of the cool crowd. We soon learned that the easiest way to become the B.M.O.C. was to play a sport and—if you were athletically blessed enough—earn that fresh letterman varsity jacket. Those leather sleeves were smooth as butter and the giant letter patch let everybody know that you had arrived. Officially.

Thankfully, those H.S. days are over (for most of us), but the varsity look remains a classic. Brands like Y-3 and Alexander McQueen have reinvented this school-boy style with modern twists on the jacket—everything from the traditional letterman steez to cleaner, patch-free, grown-up versions. Read on for our picks of the best 15 varsity jackets and show the world that you’re forever fresh, man…

When the Air Presto debuted in 2001, the general consensus was, “Yes, comfortable, maybe a little too spaceship-y though.” Fast forward 8 years, spend a little time on the Glow in The Dark Tour, and next thing you know you’re dropping $90 each for four different colorways of these puppies. Damn.

Hit the jump to see additional angles of the Varsity Royal colorway (pictured here) as well as the Deep Red, Team Orange, and Black versions. Each drops June 1st stateside at top tier Nike spots including 21 Mercer in NY and the Montalbán in L.A. For retail locations hit up nikesportswear.com.

Kicks of the Day Nike Sportswear Lunar Racer & Lunar Everyday (LiveSTRONG)

nike-luna-racer-laf
Oh how far the LiveSTRONG movement has come. Several years ago most people only knew of the little yellow bands everyone was wearing around their wrist because it was the cool thing to do. Now with Lance Armstrong still killing the game, and Nike, well doing the same, the two have got back together for two new tech-heavy sneakers that release this Saturday as a 21 Mercer Street exclusive.

Both a LunarRacer and Lunar Everyday will drop, two sneakers that feature superior tech like Flywire and Lunarlite foam (LunarRacer) and a Nike Free Everyday upper (Lunar Everyday). Both trainers are dressed up in the black/yellow LiveStrong color scheme, so you can heavy match your Steelers jersey to ‘em. Just kidding. Check more shots of the sneakers that will help you be a bit more like Lance after the jump.
