Orlando Magic fans have had it pretty good lately. Last year, Dwight Howard led the team to a Eastern Conference Championship before losing to Kobe’s crew. This year, they picked up Vince Carter and have started the season with a 9-3 record making them the third best team in the Eastern Conference. To us, it’s starting to feel like ‘94 again, which brings us to today’s Buy It Now: A vintage New Era fitted that features the Orlando Magic alternate away logo from their Penny and Shaq era. If they keep it up, maybe future fans will reminisce on the Dwight and Jameer era. We’ll see. Keep reading for a detail shot and info on where to buy it now…

After the success of his first Yankee fitted for New Era, longtime Bombers fan Spike Lee pulled out (pause) the second edition at Yankee Stadium last week. Instead of flags, the Spike Lee Joint 2.0 cap lists the team’s championship years as giant numbers—OK, OK, we get it, Spike. The Yankees are good.

Seriously though, the hat is fresh and since New Era only produced 750 of them, it’ll be a hard find…but we’ve got a crispy new one (in size 7-1/2) that we’re giving away to one lucky reader.

Trivia Question: There are 16 retired Yankee legends who have had their numbers retired by the team, but only one of them has never won a championship. Name that player.

An Atlanta company teams up with the fitted hat kings for an apparel line that honors HBCU history.

BRAND: New Era

SINCE: New Era in 1920; Tradition in 2006

HOME BASE: Buffalo, NY

WHY WE CO-SIGN: As soon as Jay-Z killed the throwback jersey on wax, we started patiently waiting for sports gear to make a return. Since then we’ve seen a couple companies try to capitalize on that market with pieces that were either too uninspired or poorly designed. But finally, there seems to be a rightful heir to the throwback throne. New Era, the company that makes every hat in your closet, and Tradition, an Atlanta-based apparel design company, have come together to create New Era presents Tradition. The line signals not only a return of sports attire but also the HBCU steez that rappers used to rock heavy in the mid-’90s…

The new line will consist of caps and a full line of apparel (jerseys, jackets, sweatshirts, tees, and fleeces) to support “the Yard” initiative which works to promote and advance “the tradition, culture and aspirations of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.” And if you cop a couple items not only will it be a good look for you, you’ll also be supporting underprivileged kids as a portion of all sales will be put towards scholarships—it’s a win/win. We wouldn’t even be surprised if we saw Jigga rockin’ a couple pieces. As long as they came in all-black, of course.

WHERE TO FIND IT: New Era Tradition Collection later this month.

Complex: How has “the Yard” influenced the overall look and feel of your collection?

Gerard Murray of Tradition: The inspiration for the collection is always developed first with our Tradition creative team, who extensively research the history and rich legacy of these schools. We then find a theme for the season that fits the selected schools and build out a collection to which we feel will represent the pride and passion of the school’s current student body, alumni and faithful supporters. We stay true to being authentic and classic with every detail.

WOOL COLLEGE TEAM
Available September 15 at New Era, $170

Complex: Any anticipated collaborations?

Todd Sokolowski of New Era: Since there has been no fashionable collection put together like this, the buzz to do even more are endless for the NE / Tradition team. We are currently exploring the idea with a major footwear brand and also an electronic accessory company about creating a limited addition package for certain schools. Until licensing approval and rights are cleared they are on ice for now. We have also been in contact with notable celebrity Alumni to possibly create a small fashion group inspired by them for their school.

EVER SINCE HENLEY
Available September 15 at New Era, $50

Complex: What are your retail plans for the future?

Todd Sokolowski, New Era: The goal from the very beginning was to create a fashion forward collegiate collection for school bookstores, to cater to the students keen fashion sense in a way that’s never been done before. We also want to current with the styles/direction in the marketplace so that our key fashion retail doors would appreciate and not just look at as the standard license product seen over the years. This creative hook up with apparel and headwear, as it relates to New Era presents Tradition, has been long over due in market place. The time is now to fill this void, be it building more business it with our new & existing retail partners domestic and global. Also a major factor will be the NE flagship stores and our E shop that will also play a key role with providing an avenue to answer the demands and needs.

From Turtle to Vince, we give you the blueprint on how to dress like guys from HBO's hit show.

This weekend, you can finally resume living vicariously through Vince and his boys from Queens Blvd. as Entourage returns to HBO for season six. While we can’t tell you how to become a Hollywood mainstay, or how to put together a starting five featuring the likes of Leighton Meester, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and a couple porn stars, we can help you fake it ’til you make it by putting together everything you need to recreate the looks of Vinny, E, Drama, Ari and, shit, even Turtle. After reading the Entourage style guide below, all you need to do is book a ticket to LA and post up outside of Opera, the Roosevelt or, if you’re really feeling desperate, even the Standard. Good luck…

Supreme drops a name; the cool guys pick it up. So here goes—Supreme: “Malcolm McLaren.” Cool Guys: *Frantic Google-searching.* We won’t go into his whole CV here but just know that back in the day, the double-M had more 12″ game than John Holmes. If you’re a DJ over 30, you know what’s up. Anyway, Supreme has a little capsule thing going with Malcolm McLaren in the form of T-shirts, hoodies, Vans kicks and this set of dope snapback hats with original artwork. Today’s Buy It Now is the Supreme x Malcolm McLaren New Era Snapback in three colorways. Get more info and see detail pics below…

Brooklyn-based Mishka has long been known for its dope fitteds, and with the recent opening of its new flagship store in Williamsburg, we can only expect more fresh inventory to come. The streetwear stalwarts have a slew of sweet New Eras (and snapbacks) bearing Mishka’s trademark graphics: eyeballs, bears and assorted psychedelia.

Today’s Buy It Now is the popular Death Adder cap in the Lake Show’s purple-and-gold colorway. Is it a bear? Is it a snake? Either way, it’s a killer. Zing! For Buy It Now info and the address of the Mishka flagship store, see below…
Today’s Buy It Now is a nice fitted from SneakTip, the kicks-obsessed streetwear brand from Coney Island, Brooklyn. (You probably know SneakTip from its popular “99 Problems” T-shirt.) The Allstar New Era Hat is exactly that—all stars over a black fitted with a satin interior lining and a SneakTip logo on the back. It’s cotton—not wool—so it’s a good breathable hat to rock for spring. For Buy It Now info and a detail pic, see below…

Take a look inside this Upland, California sneaker and streetwear store that takes on the feel of a swanky cigar lounge.

With its cigar lounge theme, newly-opened Upland, CA sneaker boutique Humidor really lives up to its name. Setting out to share a love of fashion and urban culture, the store’s sole proprietor Lorilee Apolinario teamed up with Creative Director/Designer Holden Williams to shape the refined look of the retail space.

Even with the economy in the shitter, Humidor’s sneaker and streetwear business is going strong, due to the almost complete lack of stores catering to the urban male within a 30 mile radius. The store carries brands like Crooks and Castles, 10 Deep, and Akomplice, along with rare styles of Nike sneakers and New Era caps. “You usually have to drive to L.A. or Pasadena to get these kinds of brands,” says Apolinario. “That's why these vendors were eager to be represented in our store.” See more images below…

From ice cream to iced-out watches, you can find our next President's face on just about anything. Is it exploitation or just fun?

When marketing a product, it helps to have a big name co-signer endorse your gear. Think about what Jay-Z did for Ace of Spades, what Hiroshi Fujiwara did for Burton, or what Kanye does for pretty much every brand he puts on.

But there is a co-signer that’s bigger than all of them, and he’s about to get the job of his life in a few short days. Yup, Barack Obama is bigger than all of streetwear, rap, and even bigger than having Terry Richardson shoot your ad campaign. The closer we get to inauguration day, the more brands are slapping him on just about everything. In the spirit of good fun, we’ve compiled our favorite blatant Obama alignments for the sake of product promotion that have popped up on our radar in the past couple of weeks…

OBAMA STREETWEAR: Mishka

• It seems like a great idea to combine Black Bart, Obama, and Jeezy (as a nod to “My President”), but unfortunately this shirt just comes off as exploitative. Wait, is that supposed to be Kunle? Ohhhh Shit!

OBAMA BOOZE: Hennessey

• Hennessey has enjoyed success as a “hood spirit” for many years, but the company’s latest Hennessey 44 was created “to commemorate the innaguration of the 44th president.” Is this limited product an attempt to ride the coattails of the President-Elect all the way to the top of the bailout and become the new White House staple? It might be tough, since BO doesn’t drink, and the booze isn’t completely exploitative of Barry’s new gig: Proceeds from the product (it doesn’t say how much) is going to a scholarship fund for tomorrow’s leaders.

OBAMA COMIC BOOKS: Marvel

• Is it cool that Obama is in the new Spiderman comic book, or is Stan Lee just a dick for trying to make money off of current events? Resale on these puppies is already at $50, so decide for yourself if you want to get in on round two.

OBAMA ICE CREAM: Ben and Jerry’s

• Obama is joining the ranks of Neil Young, Stephen Colbert, and Jerry Garcia with his own ice cream flavor! Hm. No one likes pecan + new president = Home Run at the creamery! Just make sure you donate the cash profits though, guys. Make your money on the intangible marketing/PR alignment!

OBAMA FITTEDS: New Era

• People are going to like these, and they make perfect sense. Chicago, Obama, Jordan, we get it. But it just seems mad suspect when big companies get in on the game. “Part of the proceeds are going to charity,” but come on guys. This is capitalism.

OBAMA BLING: 125th Street
• If you can’t hustle and make money off of your surroundings, you’re a, what is it? Oh yeah, a customer. The Jacob ripoffs with Barry’s face on them on 125th street in Harlem are way better, but if you’re reading this from the west coast, pick up a limited edition watch off of eBay. According to the sellers there are “going to be worth a lot in a few years!”

OBAMA SODA: Pepsi

• The debate is out on whether the new Pepsi logo has anything to do with the Obama campagin logo, but the slogans definitely capitalize on the similarities. We’re going to say no on the actual design of the new Pepsi logo, but maybe it’s the other way around? Does Obama prefer Pepsi to Coke?

OBAMA MONEY: *This one is just funny
• What do you think of when you think of the president-elect? Cold, hard cash, of course. You can buy “commemorative Obama novelty bills” at a lot of places, including Amazon, but our favorite is this eBay vendor becasue his, “Look Real! If you always wanted to use Nerdyglasses P's line from “Mr Me Too” but didn't have enough stacks to cop a million dollar Ferarri, here's your shot. DC and New Era hooked back up on their latest 20/94 pack that was inspired by the pussy-magnet supercar, the Enzo. Red and black (after the jump) packs will drop consisting of the sneakers and a leather fitted that'll help you play matchy-matchy. Check for these in limited DC doors right now. Gimme that.
Thankfully, this summer has been (relatively) free of ginormous-sized logos and gaudy allover prints on fitted hats. Shit was definitely getting out of hand, so respect to New Era for turning it down a couple notches with hats that flip different patterns and fabrics. So far, we’ve seen plaid, madras, jacquard, waffle, railroad stripe, leather, and velour. Yeah, velour. Word.

The skater you love to hate'that would be Ryan Sheckler, of course'rocked a plaid fitted at an X Games event in Hollywood this week. So, patterned fitteds: tip your hat or pop a cap? Vote after the jump.

We're giving away this V.I.P. prize pack that the musician designed to look like the drum pads on an MPC.

Last night, New Era, Zune and Complex columnist Travis Barker threw a little party in Los Angeles at Zune L.A. to unveil the first of four Zune/New Era collaboration hats and devices that will be launching throughout 2008. Travis’ hat is part of New Era’s high-end Capture The Flag collection, and features a pattern modeled after a drum pad.

Since Travis is our homie, and the people over at New Era and Zune are so nice, they’ve offered to give away one of the hats (only 200 total), and one of the ultra-limited Zunes, which are limited to 10 pieces and were given away to V.I.P. guests at last night’s party. Find out how to win after the jump.

Answer the following trivia question to win:

Travis Barker has had a column called “Products Of My Environment” in Complex for about a year and a half, where he interviews his celebrity friends about all things awesome. What are the names of the two female guests that he’s had in the mag? Hint: one is a bible-toting actress, and the other is a punk rockin’ Sk8-er boi lover.

Email your response to contest@complex.com and we’ll let you know if you’re the lucky winner!

Finally, a perfect match for your Pigeon Dunks if you were able to snag a pair during last year's riot. And what would a pigeon New Era hat be without the requisite bird shit droppings to go with it.

Alife releases some new t-shirt designs in perfect time for Halloween. No need to rock a mask with a big Ernie across your chest.

Speaking of Halloween, these are some bad ass evil-looking toys. Get 'em while you can, they're only devilishly limited to 100 pieces.

Onitsuka fabric Tigers are on the prowl. In addition to just being cool looking and sporting no leather uppers, your PETA friends won't hate you either, win-win.

DC and New Era celebrate the 20/94 project in NYC.

DC and New Era’s baseball-themed, limited-edition, totally sick 20/94 sneaker and hat collabo was begging for a launch party, and the companies didn't disappoint. Complex was there Saturday night in a NYC gallery space, where skateboarders and the incurably stylish partied to the sounds of the Heavy Hitters. Eventually, a half-pipe was unveiled, and skaters provided additional entertainment for the packed crowd, most of whom received special invites printed on skate decks'with the DC's and New Era's histories spelled out on the board.

We’ll leave the skating to the pros and keep our deck for decorative purposes. Thanks.
