Trendhumper: Patterned Fitteds

Thankfully, this summer has been (relatively) free of ginormous-sized logos and gaudy allover prints on fitted hats. Shit was definitely getting out of hand, so respect to New Era for turning it down a couple notches with hats that flip different patterns and fabrics. So far, we’ve seen plaid, madras, jacquard, waffle, railroad stripe, leather, and velour. Yeah, velour. Word.

The skater you love to hate—that would be Ryan Sheckler, of course—rocked a plaid fitted at an X Games event in Hollywood this week. So, patterned fitteds: tip your hat or pop a cap? Vote after the jump.

Win Travis Barker’s LTD Zune And New Era

Last night, New Era, Zune and Complex columnist Travis Barker threw a little party in Los Angeles at Zune L.A. to unveil the first of four Zune/New Era collaboration hats and devices that will be launching throughout 2008. Travis’ hat is part of New Era’s high-end Capture The Flag collection, and features a pattern modeled after a drum pad.

Since Travis is our homie, and the people over at New Era and Zune are so nice, they’ve offered to give away one of the hats (only 200 total), and one of the ultra-limited Zunes, which are limited to 10 pieces and were given away to V.I.P. guests at last night’s party. Hats Off

DC and New Era’s baseball-themed, limited-edition, totally sick 20/94 sneaker and hat collabo was begging for a launch party, and the companies didn’t disappoint. Complex was there Saturday night in a NYC gallery space, where skateboarders and the incurably stylish partied to the sounds of the Heavy Hitters. Eventually, a half-pipe was unveiled, and skaters provided additional entertainment for the packed crowd, most of whom received special invites printed on skate decks—with the DC’s and New Era’s histories spelled out on the board.

We’ll leave the skating to the pros and keep our deck for decorative purposes. Thanks.

Perfect Game

Baseball season’s heating up for a playoff run, and DC Shoes and New Era are getting in on the action with the 20/94 pack. 20/94 pays homage to the founding years of the companies: 1920 (New Era) and 1994 (DC). The baseball stitching and pinstripe motifs on the sneaker/fitted cap hook-up elevate average players to all-star status. The pack drops this Saturday September 16th at select boutiques like Atmos, and Supreme. Stay tuned to photos from the 2094 party.

Heads Up

The big wigs at New Era have been in town since last week partying it up and promoting the hell out of their new store in New York’s lower east side. We caught a glimpse of the tour bus parked outside our offices today. No this isn’t how they cruise to business meetings, at least we don’t think. Judging from how they rolled out the red carpet at the opening reception and the after party at the intimate NYC hotspot Butter, they roll in whips fit to blow their hats off.
