Over the last month, our Best of the 2000s blowout has produced some heated debates (In case you missed ’em: Top 100 Albums | Top 100 Sneakers | Top 100 Movies), and we think this week’s list will be no different.

See, more than anything, the Aughts have been all about watching videos on the internet. Style Retail Spotlight: MEMES NYC

memes1
The term “meme” has been given new life by the Internet in recent years, but the word—which refers to culture+ideas that spread among large groups of people—has been around much longer than the Web. The NYC store MEMES, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, certainly has an infectious, addictive quality that goes straight to its origins. Of the store’s address on Jones St., founder Merwin Andrade of Zero Traders says: “The location was chosen due to its history of music relevance.” Jazz greats Charlie Mingus and Miles Davis would go around the corner to Jones Alley to shoot up, basically coining the term “jonesing.”

MEMES stays strong by carrying dope brands such as Alexander McQueen X Puma, Jeremy Scott, Umbro by Kim Jones, Triko, Christopher Bevans and Mad Anthony. Check out images of the shop below…
