Sports Hammertime! MC Hammer’s Greatest Sports Moments

Hammer_Lead
Hammer don’t hurt ‘em. He helps ‘em negotiate NFL contracts!

When it comes to smart financial management, the first person you think of is Stanley Kirk Burrell, a.k.a. MC Hammer, who blew a fortune with wild spending and a 300-person entourage. So it makes perfect sense that when San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver holdout Michael Crabtree and his agent Eugene Parker finally came to terms with the team four games into the NFL season, they did so with the Parker’s best pop rapper friend at their side. Can’t hammer out a contract without a Hammer, right?

As odd as it all seems, it’s not the first instance of the sports world experiencing Hammertime. Get a good stretch, throw on your genie pants and dancin’ shoes, and revisit Hammer’s most memorable sports moments…

Style How To Get MC Hammer’s Signature Style

Many jokes have been made at his expense, but there’s no denying one thing: MC Hammer had style. In the early ’90s, when the Oakland dancing machine controlled the pop charts, he brought flashy stage costumes back to hip-hop with his shoulder-padded suits, gold chains and, of course, those roomy trousers with the over-sized crotch that became known as “Hammer Pants.”

Well, in honor of Hammer’s return—his new reality show Hammertime debuts this weekend on A&E—we put together a guide to capturing the Funky Headhunter’s classic style. Using all clothing you can buy online right now, we reconstructed and gave a modern twist to his most quintessential look—the yellow blazer and Hammer Pants outfit from the “U Can’t Touch This” video. Watch the video and see the updated Hammer outfit below…

Music The 10 Worst Rapper Commercials Of All Time

bleekfructis.jpg
“Memph Bleek is…Reinforced Active Fruit Concentrate.”

Perhaps it’s a sign of web video overload that the release of last week’s hilariously awful Garner Fructis shampoo ad with Memphis Bleek went largely unnoticed'either that, or Bleek really is that irrelevant these days.

But in his defense, you can’t really eat off the rap game any more. And besides, Memph man is far from the first rapper to embarrass himself while endorsing a product (he is the first MC to shill for women’s shampoo, so throw up the Roc for that). We went deep into the archives to dig up the worst-ever ads featuring rappers. See our cringe-inducing collection, as well as Bleek’s awesome ad, below
