Complex’s new weekly feature “Who’s That Girl?” spotlights an up-and-coming woman we’ve got our eye on.
If you caught the fight this weekend, we’re pretty sure you got a glimpse of these girls too. Audiences got to pre-game with the Filipina trio, La Diva, comprised of former Pinoy Pop Superstars (the Filipino equivalent of American Idol) as they gave their rendition of “Lupang Hinirang,” the national anthem of the Philippines. Since signing with GMA records, the group’s had non-stop exposure on GMA tv, one of the leading television networks in their country. “Under The Hood” with Manny Pacquiao at the Montalbán in L.A. was truly hot. The event was the first in a series in which Nike Sportswear takes you inside the mind, heart, and soul of the world’s greatest athletes.
Live streaming on Complex.com/NikeSportswear, Under The Hood was viewed and participated in by thousands of fans all over the world and had the internet blowing up with activity.
Highlights of the night included: a special guest appearance by Nike SB superstar P-Rod, a spectacular knockout reel, and an inside look at Manny’s brutal training regimen. Manny even took part in an insightful Q&A session with the live Montalbán audience and the online audience on Twitter. But the best part of the night came when Manny Pacquiao took the mic for an impromptu duet with Filipino singing sensation Melissa R. during her rendition of “Lahing Pinoy.”

The highly-anticipated Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto fight is finally going down this Saturday and you can sure it’ll be at least worth the bar’s cover charge (click here for our interview with Pacquiao’s trainer). Actually, we can’t guarantee that, given the quickie knockouts the Pac-Man has been handing out for the past couple of years. Still, we wouldn’t count out Cotto just yet—dude’s only lost one bout out of the 35 he’s fought in his pro career. But since you won’t know for sure until they tap gloves, we thought we’d set up a little match that we could decide for ourselves. We’re putting the hottest girls from their respectrive homelands (Pacquiao’s Philippines and Cotto’s Puerto Rico) in the ring for a hot-to-deathmatch. One thing’s for sure: we’d give any of these ladies a standing 8-count anytime…

Freddie Roach is the man behind the arguable pound for pound king in boxing, Manny Pacquiao. As the “Fighting Pride of the Philippines’s” legendary status has grown, Roach has become the most widely known and respected trainer of this generation. It’s a long way for the former boxer who said he started his Wild Card Boxing club in Los Angeles with $10,000 back in 1994.
Since then Roach has trained Oscar De La Hoya, Mike Tyson, Bernard Hopkins, and even actor Mickey Rourke in the early ’90s when he took a break from the big screen. Roach prepares Pacquiao for his welterweight title bout with Miguel Cotto Live on HBO Pay-Per-View this Saturday, and a victory for his fighter would give Manny titles in an unmatched seven different weight divisions. Roach took a break from training to speak with Complex about why Manny is the best boxer of this generation, his prediction on Saturday’s fight, and whether he thinks a super fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2010 is realistic.

Well, that was quick. In last week’s Complex 7 with Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao, perhaps we shoulda asked Ricky: “What’s your favorite lullaby?” ‘Cause Pac-Man rocked that dude to SLEEP. We would never glory in another man’s downfall, but sometimes you gotta appreciate the terrible beauty of a knockout punch.
Poor Ricky is just one of countless fighters who’ve been on the receiving end of a one-piece (with biscuit). We’ve seen many boxers get knocked da fuck out!!! through the years but we condensed the list to fit our LL Cool J-inspired headline. Hey, it’s what we do. This weekend is shaping up to be a great one for sports, and no, we’re not talking about that epic trivia contest your boss is putting together for his birthday on Friday night. The NBA and NHL playoffs finally hit their second rounds, the Kentucky Derby is Saturday evening, and to top it all off, Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao fight that night for the junior welterweight crown. It all goes down at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas (or live on HBO pay-per-view for the rest of y’all).
If you’re a boxing fan, Hatton and Pacquiao need no introduction; if you’re not, take note: Hatton has never lost in the junior welterweight division and Pacquiao is considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
