Oh man, movie studios do not play around. Christopher Nolan’s Inception doesn’t hit theaters until July 16, 2010 but that’s not stopping the powers that be from building hype early. We don’t blame them either. The flick stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a CEO-type who has the ability to interfere with people’s dreams and gets caught in a blackmailing scandal and its incredibly vague teaser still makes it look awesome. Further plot details are scarce at the moment, but this one has blockbuster written all over it. Watch the trailer and see for yourself.

The Bar is open for belly shots! Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli, that is. Leo DiCaprio’s chick is back for her third Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, finally gracing the cover for the first time. It’s the highest achievement that a pair of voluptuous breasts can aspire to, and we would applaud but one hand is busy typing and the other is…flipping through the Torah in the hope that extensive knowledge of the Jewish holy book will help us steal her from that putz Leo.

Though it was quite possibly the worst film ever thanks to boyish Leonardo DiCaprio and the vocal stylings of Celine Dion, Titanic gets a pass for introducing the world to young British actress Kate Winslet in 1997. An all-natural beauty who has eschewed Hollywood (big fake tits and bigger blockbusters) for actual acting cred and a relatively normal life, the 33-year-old mother of two is still floating our boat. Her tide is rising higher still in 2009, as she’s been winning awards left and right for her work in The Reader and Revolutionary Road.

Now Complex bestows upon her the even greater honor of being sized up in a Wifey or Trifey showdown. Check out the case for both and cast your vote to determine of she’s a do-right woman or just going down like she struck an iceberg.

Winslet comes from a family of convincing liars actors. But sure, when she tells you that she didn’t enjoy kissing Leonardo DiCaprio and that she called you “Leo” in bed because, like a lion, you’re king of her jungle of love, you can definitely trust her.

The rumored Oldboy project won’t be the first (or last) time that a Korean flick has gotten the ol’ Hollywood whitewash. Luckily for you, we at Complex are certified Korean cinema experts. Here’s a look at American remakes of Korean movies from the past, present and future.


Korean Movie: Yeopgijeogin Geunyeo (2001) (a.k.a. “My Sassy Girl”),
dir. Kwak Jae-young
Plot: A hapless college student falls in love with a pretty psycho-bitch with a traumatic past.
Remake: My Sassy Girl (2008), dir. Yann Samuell
Starring: Jesse Bradford and Elisha Cuthbert
Verdict: The O.G. broke South Korean box office records; the American adaptation was a straight-to-DVD brick, apparently because U.S. audiences couldn’t buy the concept of a loser emasculating himself to win a girl’s heart. Maybe they should’ve kept the female lead as Korean?

Korean Movie: Siworae (2000) (a.k.a. “Il Mare”), dir. Lee Hyun-seung
Plot: Two would-be lovers communicate through a magical mailbox.
Remake: The Lake House (2006), dir. Alejandro Agresti
Starring: Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock
Verdict: Koreans are experts at melodrama and the carbon-copy U.S. remake is no more cheesy or manipulative than the O.G. Still, replacing sexy “Sassy Girl” starlet Jeon Ji-hyun with Sandra Bullock definitely kills the mood.

Korean Movie: Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003) (a.k.a. “A Tale of Two Sisters”),
dir. Kim Ji-woon
Plot: Two sisters rebel against their wicked stepmother in this ghost story.
Remake: The Uninvited (out 1/30/2009), dir. Charles and Thomas Guard
Starring: Emily Browning, Arielle Kebbel and Elizabeth Banks
Verdict: The trailer for the remake features none of the O.G.’s atmospheric horror and creepiness, instead looking like a straightforward scarefest. Boo.

Korean Movie: J.S.A: Joint Security Area (2000), dir. Park Chan-wook
Plot: When a South Korean patrol guard kills two North Korean soldiers in the DMZ, an international official is sent in to investigate.
Remake: Joint Security America (no release date), dir. David Franzoni
Starring: May we suggest: Gael Garcia Bernal, Tom Hanks and Natalie Portman
Verdict: The remake, which plans to substitute the U.S.-Mexico border for the DMZ zone, actually sounds like a pretty cool idea. But the fact that the script has been on ice for so long is not a good sign. The O.G., which is Oldboy director Park’s first major film, is definitely worth Netflixing.

Neither actor has worked directly with Tarantino before, although Pitt played a stoner in Ridley Scott’s True Romance and spoke dialogue Q had written. On Tuesday, Tarantino met Pitt in France to talk about the key role of Aldo Raine. On Thursday he’s meeting with DiCaprio, who he sees playing villain Hans Landa.
