Almost a year after the album’s release, there’s a music video for nearly every song on 808s & Heartbreak (with one for “Robocop” starring Amber Rose on the way), but none are as ambitious as this 11 minute, “See You In My Nightmares”-inspired, mini-movie that debuted over the weekend.

Shot in January and premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival during the summer, We Were Once A Fairytale is the second collaboration between Kanye West and Spike Jonze (the “Flashing Lights” video was the first). This time we’re treated to same dark themes except on a grander scale. Summaries have been online for months now, so all that’s left to do is click play and let the short film begin.

Surely the habitually trendsetting guy who shops enough to speak Italian would put out one of the dopest rapper-helmed fashion lines ever, right? Wrong…sort of. The shirts were never released due to Ye’s desire to “really get into design.” In our 2007 interview he told us, “There were phases where I could just do the bear on a Polo and it would’ve made $100 million, but I always say I was a designer before I was a rapper.”

• Before anyone even saw a single item of clothing, the brand was already poised for collaborations with top designers. Well, one top designer. Kanye and George Gorrow of Ksubi had previously worked together on eyewear for Ye’s performances and planned to release co-branded sunglasses in October 2008 for $2000. Clearly, the plans never materialized.

Pop stars Kanye West and Lady Gaga have never adhered to the conventions of the mainstream and both artists have been rewarded with incredible success for their risks. Fittingly, the pair has teamed up for the nationwide Fame Kills Tour, which kicks off in November and runs until January. They’re bringing the artsy, weirdo approach to every aspect of the show’s roll-out, including this brief promotional teaser. We see a guy (presumably ‘Ye) holding a nude Gaga, and, um…that’s pretty much it. Simple yet effective. We can only imagine what these two will put together when they have our attention for hours, as opposed to 30 seconds. Find out more at the tour’s official website.

It’s hard to believe sometimes, but Drake is still technically a new artist. The kid has accomplished a lot in the past several months, but getting Kanye, Wayne, and Eminem to contribute verses to his lost mixtape cut “Forever” and clear their schedules to star in the music video, directed by Hype Williams no less, might be his most impressive task to date. Of course, the LeBron James factor (the song is on the soundtrack for his upcoming documentary) was probably helpful in getting all parties involved too. Just like Drizzy’s first big video, this one is already host to a bevy of mixed opinions, but that’s to be expected. No matter how you feel about the video, it’s a major look regardless.

So what if Kanye fought back on tears on Jay Leno’s new show last night? Whether or not he was truly apologetic about pissing on Taylor Swift’s parade, Leno asked the dude WHAT HIS DEAD MOTHER WOULD SAY. What type of peanut butter and jelly ratings-starved ethically questionable type of bullshit is that? We’re lucky Kanye was feeling emotionally vulnerable, otherwise today we’d all be talking about how Yeezy beat Leno all in his enormous chin with a well-placed black Timb.

The thing is, there’s a long history of crying in rap, from Ghostface’s verse on “Impossible” to DJ Yella shedding a tear when Eazy E announced he had AIDS, but consider this: The 2000s, more than any other time, has been a high point for lachrymose rappers. We don’t know if it’s that every concertgoer is armed with a flipcam, or that people are just that much more comfortable with their emotions, but we think overall it’s a good thing. Besides, ain’t nothing wrong with letting it run down your eye (ayo!), even if you’re the hardest of the hardrocks (ayo!). I just get so angry that hip-hop is in the state of emergency that it’s in, because people just don’t care anymore.” That’s real talk, sniffles!

YEAR: 2007
REASON FOR THE TEARS: YOU try losing your mother unexpectedly and then having to perform a song DEDICATED TO HER a week after her death. Even being asked manipulative questions by a bitchass talk show host pales in comparison to that.

MAINO BREAKING DOWN IN CONCERT
YEAR: 2009
REASON FOR THE TEARS: While the big homie was out on tour, his man 80 got shot in the back by the police and had been paralyzed ever since. Ten years in the bing, now that? Even if we didn’t fuck with his music, we’d be cosigning Maino just off the strength of what he’s been through.

Stylin’ or wildin’? We can’t really say, but we do know CB’s neckwear choice is just the latest in the long history of memorable bow ties. White Air Force 1s don’t have that much lifespan. If you don’t have the money to continue buying white Air Force 1s then buy Adidas Shelltoes, they last longer. And the whole ‘80s look? Those Pumps? That has to stay back in the ‘80s. I don’t like the retro look. That doesn’t turn me on.

 #3: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD OR HANGOVER REMEDY?

Rocsi says: My comfort food would be spaghetti. I don’t eat meat or chicken, but I still eat turkey and fish. I’m from New Orleans so…[laughs]. I’ll do the Filet-O-Fish value meal any day. For some reason, I believe it’s real fish.

 #4: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RAP ALBUM?

Rocsi says: I think 808s & Heartbreak was like an evolution of hip-hop. And it started a lot of trying-different-things trend. Not saying it wasn’t done before, but many have tried, and not succeeded. But Kanye did it, and has this I-don’t-give-a-rat’s-ass attitude. I love that album. I mean I was on Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which was another album that did phenomenal things.

Complex: Since you mentioned Kanye and 50…

Rocsi says: I can’t answer this question because I got in trouble already. [Laughs.] But I could say this: 50 makes the best workout music for me, while Kanye’s music is more lyrics-driven.

Complex: But who makes better baby-making music?

Rocsi says: I’ll have to say 50. Because he makes them thug love songs, and every girl wants to be with a gangster. At that point you’re not looking at Kanye, you’re like, “Damn, them Air Force 1s, and sweats are great!” [Laughs.]

 #5: WHAT’S THE MOST EFFECTIVE APHRODISIAC FOR YOU?

Rocsi says: Red wine. Oh, actually, I’ve had this pineapple and chocolate fondue, and it was so good.

Rocsi says: Joey from New Kids on the Block. [Laughs.] Because he had curly hair, pretty eyes, and he was just so dreamy. I had the pillows, and comforters. And Leonardo DiCaprio…it was bad when he came out in Titanic

Rocsi says: I mean, this is going to be so blown out of the water…Rihanna. When she cut her hair? It just did something completely different for her. She’s tall, she’s beautiful—completely gorgeous. I love her “fuck you” attitude.

Complex: You’re a Philly girl. What was your childhood like?

Amber Rose: I grew up in South Philly. I grew up very poor with a single mother. My mother is a waitress, and she raised me on a waitress salary. I went to a Philadelphia public school. I’ve been in Philly my whole life, but obviously I’ve traveled in between. I was definitely not in the suburbs, I was in the inner city of South Philly.

Complex: What were some street experiences you’ve witnessed?

Amber Rose: Like gun violence, drug dealers, nowhere safe for the kids to play. In the schoolyard people were drinking 40s, smoking weed. I personally used to drink, I never smoked weed though. The craziest shit was just having my friends’ parents die of drug overdoses and things like somebody getting shot on the corner of my block.

Complex: Did you always have an eclectic style growing up?

Amber Rose: Yea, I always looked up to Slash from Guns N’ Roses. I had every single poster of Slash in my room. It was crazy because I grew up in an all-black neighborhood and everybody I went to school with was black. I was the only biracial looking girl in my school, and Slash was biracial too, he was just a fucking rock star. I always wanted to play the guitar. I’ve tried, but other things came up.

Complex: What’s the status of your career?

Amber Rose: Definitely more modeling, I want to change the face of modeling. I want young girls growing up to know that they can actually eat something, and be beautiful and be a model, that they can actually have a real women’s body and do modeling. I want to get into acting. I want to pursue all avenues that I can.

Complex: Recently you’ve been thrust into the world of TMZ and Perez Hilton. How have you been dealing with the gossip blogs?

Amber Rose: This is my life, this is how my life’s been since I was a kid. I’ve always been popular, my name has always been in somebody’s mouth in high school. I don’t lose no sleep over this shit. Some of the stuff, when it’s extremely far-fetched and stupid, I just laugh. I don’t lose a minute of sleep over this.

Complex: Has your recent fame opened more doors for you?

Amber Rose: Obviously, Kanye is a super-duper megastar so he definitely gave me the fast track to the top, and I love him and appreciate him so much for that.

Complex: What’s one thing about ’Ye that really blew you away about him?

Amber Rose: Well, the fact that there can be a noise in the background, or like a windshield wiper and he will start beat-boxing or banging on the dashboard and start doing some type of beat and it sounds so fresh. I remember when he first did something like that and he just closed his eyes, and gets in the mode. I was like, “Wow.” You have to be a genius to that. He’s amazing.

Complex: Speaking of you two, Bossip just reported that you guys were broken up. Is that true?

Amber Rose: Umm, I really can’t talk about that. It’s like when Brad and Angelina were together—you never really knew if they were together or not.

Complex: When the pictures of you and a lady friend hit the blogs, it caused some commotion because people thought you were stepping out on Kanye. Who is that lady and what’s the story?

Amber Rose: [Laughs] I will definitely straighten that one out. That is my bestest friend Dez. She’s been my friend for about ten years now. We were dancers—you know, strippers—together, and that night when we took all those pictures, I was back in Philly and hadn’t seen her in a while, and I was like, “Yo Dez, let’s just take some shots of Hennessy and take some fuckin’ pictures, just for us.” She didn’t realize I do have some type of celebrity-status, and she posted them on her MySpace. Kanye knows that that’s just my friend, we’re not lesbian lovers. Everybody made a big deal out of that and it’s like, how many girls do that everyday and take silly pictures?

Complex: There’s constant chatter on the blogs about your sexual preference. Are you bisexual?

Amber Rose: Yeah, they label me a bisexual freak stripper that fucks Kanye on a daily basis. [Laughs.] You know: “Amber Rose, the fucking bisexual, dyke, freak, whatever the fuck.” To answer that: I’m extremely open with my sexuality. I can be in love with a woman, I can be in love with a man. I’m not into bestiality [laughs] but as far as humans go, I definitely find beauty in everybody, whether they’re heavy-set, super-skinny, if they’re white, black, Indian, Asian, Spanish. I can see beauty in anybody. I’m not into threesomes or orgies and shit like that. If I see a women and I think she’s beautiful and I like her, and she likes me back we can definitely try to be in a relationship together.

Complex: There’s going to be a time when people are going to ask you about whether you and Kanye are gonna take the relationship to the next level or if it’s just a fling.

Amber Rose: Because we’re in a public eye, everybody wants to know what goes on, but we’re human beings. We have arguments—people have arguments, mothers and daughters have arguments, it’s only natural. Kanye is amazing, he’s a great person, he treats me wonderful, we have a great time together. I genuinely care for him.

Complex: Did you ever have a crush on him before you guys started dating?

Amber Rose: I was always a huge fan of him, like who isn’t? But he had a fiancée, it wasn’t like, “Ah, I’m gonna get with Kanye!” When I met him, it was strictly business. He wanted me for his “Robocop” video and he had the utmost respect for me, and we hung out on a friendship/business type of deal. You know, just as normal human beings when you hang out with somebody, you start to like them. Kanye knew my life, so when the blogs came out like, “Oh, Kanye do you know she was a stripper, that she used to date girls?” Kanye was like, “Tell me something I don’t know.” Everybody has a life and a past.

Complex: What was it like meeting Madonna at the Met Gala?

Amber Rose: Well, that night I was around superstar celebrities, and I have to say this: Madonna was the most down-to-earth person there. She was dancing having a good time. Yeah, she put her hand on my butt to take a picture, but who wouldn’t brag about that, it’s fucking Madonna! Madonna reinvents herself every two years, she was amazing, and I put the picture on Twitter to be like, “Hey look, I have a picture with Madonna.” And then everyone’s like, “Oh, they’re having threesomes,” and it’s like, c’mon it’s so not true. It’s a fucking picture, relax.

Complex: How do you respond to people saying this whole Kanye situation is a publicity stunt?

Amber Rose: Well, my intentions when I met Kanye was to do his video, keep it very professional and we really started to like each other. It just so happened that he started liking me and I started liking him. It’s not a publicity stunt, it’s just human beings, man. I love Kanye as a person, he’s a great person, he’s super-talented. I love him for a lot of different reasons.
