Movies Ayo! Scott’s Premature Evaluation: She’s Out of My League

Complex film critic Ayo! Scott can’t be bothered with screenings, so he’s reviewing movies based on the trailer alone.

Low self-esteem is a bitch, and Ayo! Scott definitely took advantage of it to run through that skank. But low self-esteem is also pretty depressing, which is why it saddens Ayo! to see Complex-approved funnyman Jay Baruchel, of Knocked Up, Million Dollar Baby, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and Tropic Thunder fame vague, bit-part recognition, struggling with it. In his new comedy, She’s Out of My League, Baruchel “acts” like he has an inferiority complex, only the tepid cliché of an average Joe who’s too insecure to handle dating a hot chick (Alice Eve) is clearly just a metaphor for his feelings of career inadequacy.

In Knocked Up, Judd Apatow’s 2007 banger, fat, sloppy Seth Rogen improbably became a star leading man. Chunky and unkempt Jason Segel and Jonah Hill, who played Rogen’s crew alongside Baruchel, have gone on to become successful leading men too (Segel’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Hill’s Superbad were among Complex’s Top 100 Movies of the 2000’s). Meanwhile, skinny J.B. starred in 2007’s Just Buried and 2008’s Real Time, which even he hasn’t seen. His sense of inferiority is no doubt compounded by the fact that he is tragically Canadian (a hindrance that Rogen overcame along with his gut, which makes it all the more frustrating). Having never been inferior at anything (modesty included), Ayo! doesn’t really know what to tell Baruchel about his romantic comedy cry for help. He just hopes that, should it ever come out, Jay and Seth Vs. the Apocalypse doesn’t blow. Check out the trailer for yourself below to see what Ayo! is talking about…

Movies Ayo! Scott Loves ‘I Love You, Man’

Paul Rudd and Jason Segal put the "man" in bromance.
Paul Rudd and Jason Segal put the “man” in bromance

Thanks to Brody Jenner, that shameless slut for celebrity, the idea of “bromance” is on almost as many minds as Ayo! Scott’s engorged tip. It’s very hard (to believe), Ayo! knows. Not that he feels threatened by this development. Planet Earth’s most revered film critic will always be on the tip of your tongue, and besides, Ayo! has no problem expressing his platonic love for a man. For example, Ayo! Scott loves Ayo! Scott. He also loves Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, and their hilarious new bromantic comedy, I Love You, Man
