Honda Unveils Green OSM Concept

honda-lead.jpg
Here’s a tip for automakers (or any other company that makes “green” products): the masses would be more than happy to do their part in saving this big blue ball if the tools to do so were actually…cool. Something like Honda’s new low emission sports car concept, the OSM, which was unveiled today at the 2008 British International Motor Show.

Labeled as a “design study”, the OSM (short for Open Study Model) is the latest concept from Honda that previews their new design direction and low emission technology. The lightweight coupe’s “clean and dynamic” design inspiration can be seen in the smooth curves and distinctive lines of the body, which make the lil roadster look like it’s ready to pounce. The interior carries on the fluid theme with a simple to use two-tier dashboard with sweeping curves and an iDrive-esque media controller. The goal for the OSM, according to project leader Andreas Sittel, was to show the public that low-emission cars can actually be attractive. We thought the Lexus LS-460h was a pretty attractive hybrid, but what do we know? Check out more pics after the jump.

ASIMO Robot To Direct Symphony Orchestra

asimo_wand.jpg
We love robots, but we’re bracing ourselves for that inevitable day one takes our job. The service industry is already starting to be taken over by the mechanical menace, but what about those of us in more artistic fields? Surely a robot could never write a hit song, or make a beautiful painting, or churn out consistently witty commentary for a website…right?

This is why the latest news about Honda’s freakishly humanoid ASIMO robot has us shook. Apparently, this guy will be conducting the Detroit Symphony Orchestra this May 13 in Motor City alongside world-famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma. If a robot can conduct a major symphony, how long until he’s directing movies, hosting 106 & Park and coaching the Knicks? We’re trying not to fear the future, but the possibilities are a bit frightening. Watch a video of ASIMO babysitting some unsuspecting kids after the jump.
