Freeman’s Sporting Club Cuts Into The West Village

freemanslead2.jpg
Born out of the love of hunting, fishing and all those other old school activities your grandpa loved back in the day, Freeman’s Sporting Club has kept people coming back to their Rivington St. spot to get cleaned up with a fresh trim and a new tailored suit. Now, the collective is getting ready to open up their second location, as a full-fledged chop shop.

New York’s West Village will be the site of the more expansive hair-trimming follow-up, that will focus solely on the barbershop aspect of the business. For the new location, F.S.C tricked the space out with oak-wood floors, vintage barbershop chairs, and nautical artwork making for the most authentic-looking 1930’s-era barbershop in the city. The walk-in-only venue charges $40 for a cut, and also offers a “Hangover Remedy” treatment, which involves a rinse and a hot eucalyptus wrap that will have you checking in after patron-filled nights. The shop officially opens this Friday and it’s going to be the move on lazy Sundays. See more of the space below.

Trendhumper: There Will Be Moustaches

therewillbemoustaces2.jpg
Facial hair can be a blessing and a curse. Normally we fully support whiskers of any kind, but a recent trend is making us rethink our stance on the bushy moustache.

Now, the ’stache has been a staple of ironically-minded men for years now. You’ve seen them—unkept urban dwellers with a stinky, tight thrift store t-shirt, puffy jew-fro and a weasel latched on to their lip. But while that look harks back more to ’70s male porn star style, the new wave of upper lip hair seems to be inspired by the popularity of Daniel Day-Lewis‘ character in There Will Be Blood.

Don’t get us wrong—this was one of the best flicks of ’07, but damn, did ya’ll really have to take it there? Lately, it seems like we can’t escape dudes who look vaguely like sharp-dressed 1800’s oil prospectors on our city streets. We know you aren’t going to drink our milkshake, so perhaps its time to reevaluate that unabashed ’stache.

But perhaps we’re wrong. Do you think this look has legs? Vote “Hump” or “Dump” after the jump…

Chop It Up

NEAL.jpg

Pocket culture magazine Frank151 recently opened up a barbershop in NYC’s Lower East Side. The appropriately named ‘Chop Shop’ houses three 1930’s style chairs and has barbers with straight edge razors ready to slice you while you sit back and enjoy the vintage era decor. One of the bonuses of this barber shop is the full range of custom New Era caps just in case you couldn’t sit still in the chair or just rethought that Ceasar cut. After the jump check out the front of the Chop Shop and glance at the full Frank menu including a man on man neck massage for $5. Chop-chop.

Frank’s Chop Shop, 19 Essex Street, Tuesday-Sunday 12:00pm-10:00pm

Update: Sir Frank chimes in to let us know the neck massage is from a female, but male on male can be arranged per special request.
