WHY WE COSIGN: Founders Kevin Carney and Brandon Day made their dream into a reality by taking the classic NYC rants about the “state of culture” and actually doing something about it. The two started Generic Man as “a case study in adultism”, and brought independent footwear to the scene with a bang: the first few series of handcrafted sneaker/shoes were critically acclaimed and picked up immediately by the NYC fashion crew. Generic Man continues to kill it, but the brand spawned the offshoot, Generic Surplus in Fall 2008 to create a more affordable and casual collection with similar themes. Generic Surplus’ simple silhouettes are quality sneakers with minimal branding. The Generic Man Pop-Up Shop will be the first opportunity for consumers to purchase the entire Fall 2009 Generic Man and Generic Surplus collection, and is a must stop if you’re in the Hollywood area.
