Style Fashion Week Launch: Robert Geller x Levi’s Collection

robertgeller
Last night, Complex trekked over to Bloomingdale’s to get a sneak peak of the Robert Geller for Levi’s collection. If you’re wondering who Robert Geller is and why he deserves to design a line for Levi’s, you obviously haven’t been paying attention to this site. Catch up!

The German-born, American educated designer got his start working at Marc Jacobs before going on to launch a number of brands, including the award-winning Cloak and the eponymous Robert Geller Menswear, which launched in 2007. Although he’s been toiling away in the industry for the better part of the last decade, gaining accolades left and right, it wasn’t until this year that the Council of Fashion Designers of America gave him the award for Best New Menswear Designer. The award came with a $50,000 prize that would be used to help established his label as well as the Levi’s mini-collection that puts a unique twist on American workwear classics. Familiar yet? If not, read on to see (and buy!) some key pieces of the from the collection we saw last night…

Style Street Detail: The Diesel Show at Bryant Park

Art Guchato, Fashion Week

We sent out our photographer for a style recon around the tents thrown up in NYC’s Bryant Park for Fashion Week during the Diesel show yesterday. The attendees ran the gamut from billionaire heiress Lydia Hearst to what appears to be a freshly skinned fox. Could be a Pomeranian. We didn’t ask.

Check the gallery after the jump.

Girls Sweet Meat

After a few snags at the Baby Phat show, fashion week rolls on. Every year some of the biggest names in entertainment and fashion (and animal rights) turn out for Kimora Lee Simmons' hyped-up runway show. We anticipated the hour-late start to the 10-minute fall line preview, but didn't see the beef coming… well, maybe some of it. Outside the Bryant Park tents, protesters shouted anti-fur chants and waved around a dead, skinned poodle. Real classy. Then, seconds before the show started, a scuffle between 50 Cent and an agitating guest resulted in guest having his seat literally handed to him. Chill, it wasn't Diddy, either. The lights dimmed and the sexy models took the stage, showing off way too much clothing and handbags. All the more reason to protest.

Girls Show Stopper

When it comes to women's fashion, we know where to direct our attention, and it's not to detail. Who needs a degree in design to know what's really good about a lady in a skimpy dress? Not us. Today we turned down a front row seat at the fashion show for women's wear brand Gottex during the first day of Olympus Fashion Week. Posted up with the rest of press was a good look for us to deliver the fine Amazons you can scroll down to see. However, a quick wardrobe change brought on the realization that if we pose as true fashionistas in the future, we too can have a “touch it or not” moment with the models, à la Issac Mizrahi's Scarlett Johansson grope heard 'round the world. Such a simple idea surely wouldn't get lost in translation.
