Sal Barbier is a legend. And his sneakers? They’ve basically reached iconic status in terms of skate-shoes. The thing with etnies is that they kill it in the skate shops, but sneakerheads miss important drops like this Navy/Red/Gum make-up. Lucky for you, we got you covered, and although they sold out on the etnies site, Tactics got a full size run. $55, www.etnies.com
Kyle Leeper is good at skateboarding. So good, in fact, that etnies decided to give him a pro model sneaker. The Perro first appeared on shelves in June, and colorways are continuing to drop throughout the summer, including this simple gray version above, out now. In a skateboard test with NYC Hopps founder/backer/skater Jahmal Williams, the BK hero stated, “For a vulc shoe, this thing has great support and heel protection. It’s one of my favorites from the group. Clean silhouette, comfy, and great for skating or just wearing.”
Sounds good to us. Check a video of Kyle explaining the shoes technical side (including Sole Tech’s G2 Platinum gel to minimize heel bruise) here, or hit up KCDC in Brooklyn if you’re trying to get a pair. $65, etnies.com.
When people mention baby blue and #23 in the same sentence, the immediate thought is that they’re talking about Michael Jordan right? Wrong. The topic of conversation today, are these summer-friendly Sal 23 bangers from etnies. The classic sneaker came back strong thanks to a handful of In4mation collabos, and now etnies is dropping regular in-line make ups in classic colorways like the one pictured above. Even if you haven’t skated since Dee and Rickey were in diapers, these are a solid spring go-to. Cop ‘em now. $58.95, www.etnies.com
The Rap is coming back to etnies lineup for Spring, slimmed up, and looking solid. Don Brown and Pierre Andre Senizergues take us through the sneaker’s history in this new video. Yo PAS, make the O.G. solid-tone colors again!

The latest double-label Sal 23 shoe goes back to black/white this month for all you subtle old-schoolers. Mikey Taylor made the move to etnies, and the brand hooked him up proper with his own signature shoe. Besides solid skate-tech that's synonymous with Etnies, the sneaker is capped off with artwork by skater-turned-artist Don Pendleton of Alien Workshop fame. The sneakers just became available online at CCS, so if you're looking cop them with ease, click HERE.
Early next week, Colette will drop the Vent Deux, or “22″ Collection, a series of sneakers designed by the owner of etnies, Pierre Andre Senizergues. The name is a reference to the French version of “5-0,” a.k.a. the thing you yell when there are cops coming. So if you’re skating in France, or if you hear the hip-hop police coming and you’re in Paris, it’s “Vent-Deux.”
We sat down with Pierre to speak about the collection, check the full range of 5 sneakers and the interview with the boss about why he did them after the jump.
Last night, etnies and Adult Swim threw a launch party to announce a collaborative project between the two brands. Complex’s Lifestyle Editor Bradley Carbone got a chance to catch up with the group responsible for designing the shoes and putting it together: Adult Swim Creative Director Jake Escobedo, Senior Designer Brandon Lively, and etnies Brand Marketing Manager Eladio Correa.
Check out an exclusive interview with the trio below to learn more about the sneakers, Adult Swim’s creative process, and an upcoming special called The Return of Freaknik that stars Lil' Wayne, T-Pain and David Banner .
For a holiday season drop, Etnies hooked up with NYC-based skateboard company SHUT on this black/gold Rap Hi.
Etnies wanted to team up with a company that has remained skateboarder-owned and operated, and has continue to kill it without selling out to the pressures of going corporate'so SHUT was the lay-up choice. Check for these to hit Etnies retailers for Holiday 2008.
