Tonight Dennis McNett’s solo show “The Old Horned Deity” opens in New York City’s Lower East Side. The show incorporates McNett’s signature woodblock prints and masks, but takes the art to a new level, incorporating a full installation on the walls and a series of 3-D sculptures of a forest and some insane creatures. It all starts at 7pm at the Stanton Chapter (176 Stanton St) and runs through October 15th. See more photos of the art and a quick interview with the McNet below…
McNett explains “The Old Horned Deity”:

“I had a couple of shows around the country, and I turned it into a road trip of sorts. All the nature and intense color from the California coast and out into Montana is just so incredible and so amazing and played a key role in the inspiration for this show. I’ve wanted to do an installation like this for a long time, and creating this is a big part of keeping myself entertained.

“The whole show is made out of collaged wood block prints. So what I do is cut several blocks and do the prints, and then use the prints as collage elements. In a sense, it’s like drawing, drawing with collage tools. The central character is Pan, which is where the title of the show, ‘The Old Horned Deity,’ comes from. He was known to inspire panic in some, and for making others completely awestruck by his power. That’s what I wanted to create, that awestruck feel of nature, and that feel that I got from being out around the country.”
