Being called the “fathers of alternative rock” is what’s referred to as a backhanded compliment, but if there’s any group that can claim that title, it’s Jane’s Addiction. Next Wednesday, the group’s original lineup will perform together for the first time in 16 years at the inaugural U.S. NME Awards at the El Rey Theatre in L.A. (Jane’s is receiving a “Godlike Genius Award,” which is what’s referred to as a slight'but only slight'exaggeration).

Three-fourths of the group (singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, and drummer Stephen Perkins) have reunited a few times in the past, but this is the first time bassist Eric Avery’s joined them since the band closed out the initial Lollapalooza tour in '91. Which of course got the older ones among us thinking about our favorite Jane’s moments from the late '80s/early '90s. Check out 5 classic videos after the jump.
