Comics ‘Smuggling’ Comic Comes Under Fire in U.K.

Despite stupid adults’ claims to the contrary, we’ve always known that there’s a lot to be learned from comics'not all mutants are evil, spider bites aren’t always fatal, being the last man on earth isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. But now a book in the U.K. is catching flack for being a little too educational.

This past weekend, British Labour Party Member of Parliament Khalid Mahmood came out against Him & Hers Smuggling Vacation, a book written by Englishman Jason Wilson and his father Anthony Cyril Spencer about a U.K. couple that stumbles upon a bunch of weed while on vacation and tries to smuggle it home. The book is highly detailed in its depiction of the European underworld, with good reason'Spencer was briefly the most wanted man in Britain and helped his son complete Vacation while spending time in a Spanish prison. The book’s become something of a hit in English jails, thus drawing the ire of the aforementioned MP. Movies How To Win A Cocaine Cowboys 2 DVD

While in her late 40s, Colombian cocaine queen Griselda Blanco liked to tell her friends, “I’m the baddest bitch to ever take a breath of life.” If you need proof, watch Cocaine Cowboys 2: Hustlin’ With The Godmother, a spin-off of the 2006 documentary that drops today. While the original examined Miami drug trafficking in the late '70s and early '80s, the sequel focuses in on the post-Miami operation of Blanco (aka The Godmother), detailing how she fell in love with Oakland man Charles Cosby and recruited him to run her national cocaine distribution network while behind bars in the early '90s.

Told primarily through interviews with Cosby, along with archival footage and animated reenactments, CC2 is easily as riveting as the original. But while the first documentary offered broad social commentary about the effects of drug money on Miami, the sequel is much more of a focused character study about how these strange bedfellows developed a symbiotic relationship. If that doesn’t make you want to watch…did we mention that there’s a segment where they give instructions on how to cook crack? Either way, there’s something for the whole family. Sports Coaches Can’t Control Their Criminal Kids

Professional coaches are often too busy studying film, strategizing, and playing father to athletes to parent their own damn kids. Sidney Lowe II, son of North Carolina State basketball coach Sidney Lowe, is the latest neglected offspring to score a prison cell.

Lowe II will reportedly plead guilty today to six counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and six counts of kidnapping related to a March 2007 home invasion'apparently he thought the “charity stripe” extended to strangers' homes. He joins the sons of high-profile coaches like Bill Belichick, Barry Alvarez, and Andy Reid to catch a case. With the recession in full swing, everybody wants some easy money. According to USA Today, bank robberies are up in major cities across the country and some authorities are citing the economic climate as a possible explanation.

Sports Pacman Jones Joins Dallas’ Wild Cowboys

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to trade troubled defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones to the Dallas Cowboys, adding one more shady character to America's Team. Team owner Jerry Jones is hoping that he won't make it rain court documents and only assault opposing players.

Jones, who has been arrested six times since he was drafted in 2005 (and involved in several more incidents where police were called), follows in the footsteps of Tank Johnson, who joined the 'Boys in 2007 after serving time for weapons charges. Events Oakland’s Murder Map

Blue represents homicides committed in 2007, Red represents those committed in 2008.

On Tuesday, Oakland recorded its 34th murder (by contrast, New York'a city with nearly 20 times Oakland's population'has had only 99 killings this year). To map the out-of-control murder rate, the San Francisco Chronicle used Google Maps to show the distribution of every homicide from 2007 and 2008. Not surprisingly (least of all for the residents of East and West Oakland), the murders share some geographic characteristics. It seems like as long as you stay above the MacArthur Freeway, you’re going to live a long life.
