BRAND: Noir Basic

SINCE: 2008

FOUNDED BY: Marc Leblond, Romain Bernardini & Antony Lellouche

WHY WE CO-SIGN: If you can’t distinguish the lines between hot or not, our best advice is to stick with the classics. Stick with the timeless pieces that won’t go out of style just because a bunch of cool kids decide that it’s now lame. To dodge the hot-to-not cycle, there are certain brands you can trust to deliver goods that have staying power. One of them is the french brand Noir Basic

How does a streetwear brand stay afloat in the land of couture? By taking cue’s from Japan’s streetwear scene and mixing in craftsmanship and luxe materials like silk, washed lamb, stingray leather, alligator and sterling silver in a way that only french fashion culture can teach. All that produces some of the best leather jackets, varsity jackets, and blazers in the game. Only available at select retailers in the US, these pieces are well worth the search and the price tag. But you might wanna sign your wallet up with the nearest gym, just in case.

This New York-based company puts out a full line of shirts, bags, and hats that will bring a smirk to any sports fan's face.

BRAND: No Mas

SINCE: 2004

FOUNDED BY: Chris Isenberg

HOME BASE: New York

WHY WE CO-SIGN: Wearing throwbacks, or any jersey short of a soccer kit, hasn’t been fashionable for a good six years now. So what’s a true sports fan to do when they want to express their love of all things athletic? They should check out No Mas. Founded in 2004 by sports monomaniac Chris Isenberg, the brand began humbly with Isenberg making T-shirts for himself and friends. The shirts featured depictions of iconic and infamous sports moments and some of his childhood athletic heroes. After receiving large amounts of attention, both good and bad, Isenberg began selling his creations at local NYC shops Nom de Guerre, and Union…

Now, these aren’t your pops’ generic-logoed, sold-at-Modell’s T-shirts. Nah, to fully understand each piece, a certain level of sports knowledge is required. Known for parodying athletes who fell from stardom, each piece is sure to bring a smirk to any sports followers’ face (unless you happen to be a Ben Johnson fan). And recently No Mas has branched out from clothes to begin selling original art, as well as accessories like the No Mas x Dee & Ricky Finisher Bags. Fabolous may not be rocking them, but Spike Lee, Mark Ronson, and Bobbito are. That’s a win in our book.

BRAND: Martin + Osa

HOME BASE: New York, NY

WHY WE CO-SIGN: If you want to deck yourself out in classic American styling, there are a number of stores available to suit your needs. Unfortunately, most of them are pretty pricey and tailor to your father’s group of friends. Looking to bring that style to a younger gen, is Martin & Osa. Started by American Eagle Outfitters back in ‘06 as their upscale outlet (think Banana Republic to the Gap), the brand focuses on making classic wardrobe staples and giving them a contemporary twist at price points that won’t break your bank account. Besides their own clothing, Martin & Osa go a step further and stock a select number of third party brands like Ray-Ban, Havaianas, Filson and Sperry Top Sider, at their retail locations. Which, by the way, are designed to look like high end boutiques, making the shopping experience all the more official. Bottom line: Martin & Osa deserve a look, unless you enjoy dressing like your pops.

WHY WE CO-SIGN: We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, uniforms are not something that we’re too fond of. It’s not like we have bad childhood memories of being forced to wear uniforms to our private schools, or totally hate the community service steeze like Chris Brown, it’s just we like to wear what we want. However, our thoughts changed a bit when we got familiar with Italian-based C.P company—a brand that transforms traditional military uniforms and working clothes into sophisticated and stylish pieces…

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Goggle Jacket, C.P. Company collaborated with Aitor Throup to recreate the timeless classic which includes built-in goggles, a watch porthole, detachable gloves, and even a body segment that moves with you as you sit in your car. The standout jacket works whether you’re driving in a race across Europe, or just trekking during your daily commute to your 9-5. The jacket is just the latest standout in C.P’s range, dating back since 1975, owner of the company Carlo Rivetti set out to find new ways to marry formality and function by studying uniforms from the 19th century and making them more comfortable and wearable for daily use. Since it’s inception, the brand is responsible for developing new materials, and over 60,000 dyes that come out of the brands specialized research and color laboratory. BRAND: Pointer

SINCE: 2004

FOUNDED BY: Gareth Skewis

HOME BASE: London, England

WHY WE CO-SIGN: Look, we love Air Yeezy’s and all those other brightly colored, bulky high-tops that are now so heavily lusted after. But, despite what you may think, you can’t go around looking like an urbanized spaceman all the damn time. Sometimes you have to tone it down and class it up. We’re not saying you gotta go full hard bottom (although, that’s not such a bad idea), but there are sneaker companies that have found a middle ground between the formal and casual. One of the best is the London, England based brand Pointer…

Whether it be a dinner with your girls family, or getting past the bouncer at a club you begrudgingly promised your friend you’d go to, Pointer footwear takes over where brands like Nike or Supra leave you hanging. Started in 2004, Gareth Skewis set out to create “well-designed casual shoes in response to a market then saturated with increasingly technical trainers and hyped-up limited edition sneakers.” Sounds like hypebeast salvation to us. Blending the comfort of sneakers with the more buttoned up look of dress shoes, Pointer truly gives you the best of both worlds. For Spring 2010, they have a whole slew of styles and colorways—a couple cool lace ups, and a modern take on the penny loafer—that is sure to appease even the most die sneakerhead.

BRAND: Penfield

SINCE: 1975

FOUNDED BY: Harvey Gross

HOME BASE: Hudson, MA

WHY WE CO-SIGN: If you’re like us, at some point, function becomes way more important then mere aesthetics. When we have to walk five blocks to the nearest subway in 20-degree weather, whether or not we look cool begins to matter less and less. Although your setting might be a little less urban then ours, freezing is universal. So when the temperature begins to drop, we turn to Penfield, a brand that has been keeping cats warm for nearly 35 years. Yeah, we know other brands make warm outerwear, but few get the job done with such stylish attention to detail.

Originally established in Hudson, Massachusetts 1975, Penfield has developed a tradition of protecting the masses from the elements with gear that looks great on a mountain climber or a city kid looking for something to get into on a Friday night. To make sure form matches function, Penfield has worked with other brands on special projects. This year, it has collaborated with the likes of rag & bone, Reed Space, Edifice, and Limoland. Using high-quality fabrics like water- and windproof Melton wool, along with the wisdom that comes with being in the game for 30-plus years, Penfield continues to hold us down on any frontier.

SINCE: 2008

WHY WE CO-SIGN: Imagine gearing up to rip up the slopes but still looking ready to stop off at a lounge first. We know what you’re thinking—impossible right? Think again! The first of its kind, Isaora holds down the dudes who bring style with them wherever they go, regardless of that insider bullshit. If Shaun White dressed like Kanye West, no doubt this would be his go-to label. In short, Isaora is like the refined older brother to Burton: the same technicality with a huge dash of “grown man.” With its flawless melding of performance and style, this brand is all about switchin’ lanes (word to Kid Cudi).

Normally when you think of a brand directed toward snowboarding you immediately picture baggy, brightly colored, gaudy jackets and snow pants. Not exactly stuff you would want to wear while walking down your block. For designer and founder Marc Daniels, that train of thought was exactly what inspired Isaora. Pieces from the Fall 2009 line will keep you comfortable as you rip up the slopes and confident while kickin’ it with the snow bunnies. So keep your swag on ice (literally) and check out some of the fresh Fall ‘09 releases at Bodega, and Paragon Sports.

WHY WE CO-SIGN: Frank Lucas said it best: “The loudest man in the room is often the weakest.” When it comes to fashion, we believe ultra-flashy is not always the way to go. Low-key times call for low-key measures, and for that we turn to brands like Shipley & Halmos. It has mastered the art of effortless style, with an attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.

Originally known for co-founding and designing for popular L.A. brand Trovata, these two college friends relocated to the Big Apple to start anew. Their move to the right coast has inspired a more refined and tailored look. We got our hands on one of the lookbooks for S&H’s Spring 2010 line hitting stores this January, and it’s straight blue magic. The line features ill sweaters and jackets that can make any outfit pop.
Complex: What is the inspiration behind the overall look and feel of your designs?
Jeff Halmos: Our aesthetic is really based on the idea of reinvention. We take classic things and try to give them a modern feeling.

Complex: You have been long time friends, has that affect your relationship as business partners?
Sam Shipley: Not really. We’ve known each other for 11 years, and have worked together now for about 7. The important thing is that we started first as friends. The “business” part came later.

Complex: What are your most popular items?
Jeff Halmos: Our guys love our suits and shirts. They’re consistently top sellers in the collection. We have some customers that buy them season after season. It’s all about the fit.

Complex: In your opinion, what styles and trends will we see in menswear in 5 years?
Jeff Halmos: Hmmm – that’s hard to say. Men’s trends move so slow! The turning around of the economy should definitely bring with it a movement toward a cleaner, stronger, more polished silhouette.

Complex: What do you believe are the 5 must haves every man should have in their wardrobe?
Sam Shipley: The go-to black suit, a white dress shirt, a cashmere sweater, a great bathing suit and the perfect leather motorcycle jacket.

WHY WE CO SIGN: Despite the name, dress shoes shouldn’t automatically be thought of as formal footwear. Now more than ever, hard bottoms have moved more into the casual and street wear world. So as we said before when we told you how to buy ‘em, if you haven’t already, it’s time to start incorporating some grown-up shoes into your repertoire. A good brand to start with is Rachel Comey footwear. Before she got into women’s wear, Comey found fame with her mens footwear line that was inspired by the “young music scene in New York.” Her newest collection features her signature handcrafted oxfords as well as spins on everyday classics like moccasins, and desert boots. Basically all the staple footwear pieces. The prices are a bit steep, but we guarantee you’ll get more wear out of them than your Yeezy’s.

See below for our interview with Rachel Comey and pics from the Fall 2009 Collection…

Complex: What styles can we anticipate for the Fall/Winter 2009 season?
Rachel Comey: With the onset of colder weather, we’ll start to see less in the way of thin cotton shirts and shorts, and more jackets and trousers. I’m predicting that by Thanksgiving we’ll start to see more scarves and gloves on men and, moving in to the Holiday season, even thicker, warmer jackets and possibly the occasional wool hat.

Complex: What do you believe are the 5 must haves every man should have in their closet?
Rachel Comey: Lots of white T-Shirts, a suit well-tailored in the shoulder especially, cashmere sweaters (avoid turtleneck ones until age 45), Maggie’s organic tie-dye socks, and Rachel Comey brown leather oxfords.

Complex: In your opinion, what styles and trends will we see in menswear in 5 years?
Rachel Comey: I think that we will continue to see much more of the same as we have seen since about 1960. Which is: subtle variations on classic pieces (i.e. the narrowing and widening of pant legs, the shortening and lengthening of zipper rises, etc.). I’m thinking denim will definitely be pretty important in 2015.

An Atlanta company teams up with the fitted hat kings for an apparel line that honors HBCU history.

BRAND: New Era

SINCE: New Era in 1920; Tradition in 2006

HOME BASE: Buffalo, NY

WHY WE CO-SIGN: As soon as Jay-Z killed the throwback jersey on wax, we started patiently waiting for sports gear to make a return. Since then we’ve seen a couple companies try to capitalize on that market with pieces that were either too uninspired or poorly designed. But finally, there seems to be a rightful heir to the throwback throne. New Era, the company that makes every hat in your closet, and Tradition, an Atlanta-based apparel design company, have come together to create New Era presents Tradition. The line signals not only a return of sports attire but also the HBCU steez that rappers used to rock heavy in the mid-’90s…

The new line will consist of caps and a full line of apparel (jerseys, jackets, sweatshirts, tees, and fleeces) to support “the Yard” initiative which works to promote and advance “the tradition, culture and aspirations of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.” And if you cop a couple items not only will it be a good look for you, you’ll also be supporting underprivileged kids as a portion of all sales will be put towards scholarships—it’s a win/win. We wouldn’t even be surprised if we saw Jigga rockin’ a couple pieces. As long as they came in all-black, of course.

WHERE TO FIND IT: New Era Tradition Collection later this month.

Complex: How has “the Yard” influenced the overall look and feel of your collection?

Gerard Murray of Tradition: The inspiration for the collection is always developed first with our Tradition creative team, who extensively research the history and rich legacy of these schools. We then find a theme for the season that fits the selected schools and build out a collection to which we feel will represent the pride and passion of the school’s current student body, alumni and faithful supporters. We stay true to being authentic and classic with every detail.

WOOL COLLEGE TEAM
Available September 15 at New Era, $170

Complex: Any anticipated collaborations?

Todd Sokolowski of New Era: Since there has been no fashionable collection put together like this, the buzz to do even more are endless for the NE / Tradition team. We are currently exploring the idea with a major footwear brand and also an electronic accessory company about creating a limited addition package for certain schools. Until licensing approval and rights are cleared they are on ice for now. We have also been in contact with notable celebrity Alumni to possibly create a small fashion group inspired by them for their school.

EVER SINCE HENLEY
Available September 15 at New Era, $50

Complex: What are your retail plans for the future?

Todd Sokolowski, New Era: The goal from the very beginning was to create a fashion forward collegiate collection for school bookstores, to cater to the students keen fashion sense in a way that’s never been done before. We also want to current with the styles/direction in the marketplace so that our key fashion retail doors would appreciate and not just look at as the standard license product seen over the years. This creative hook up with apparel and headwear, as it relates to New Era presents Tradition, has been long over due in market place. The time is now to fill this void, be it building more business it with our new & existing retail partners domestic and global. Also a major factor will be the NE flagship stores and our E shop that will also play a key role with providing an avenue to answer the demands and needs.

WHY WE CO SIGN: We believe clothing, like all art, should tell a story. Every piece in a line should speak to one another on some level to establish some sort of overall message. Former Quicksilver graphic designer, Vincent Flumiani wholeheartedly agrees as his new clothing label Caulfield Preparatory is inspired by J.D. Salinger’s classic “Catcher in the Rye”. More specifically, the books protagonist Holden Caufield.

Launching this fall with their first collection, Caulfield Preparatory is, if you couldn’t tell by the name, a brand that focuses mostly on the preppy aesthetic—but with a downtown twist, kinda like ‘03 Kanye mixed with ‘09 Kanye. The collection will consist of woven shirts, graphic tee’s, knit sweaters/thermals, scarves, beanies and more. But Flumiani knows that just because you base a brand on a character doesn’t give it a story. He intends the brand to be akin to a novel with every collection being another chapter. And thanks to his background in skate and surf designing, Caulfield Preparatory will feature fabrics that are super comfortable to wear.

Complex: How do the themes from “Catcher in Rye” capture the inspiration and overall look and feel of your designs?

Vincent Flumiani: The concept of Caulfield Preparatory is a collection that is at its foundation and core created on and based in story—to attack the creation of each collection as a storyteller first, then the designer second. Often times as a designer when creating it’s easy to get caught up in “themes for the next season” or what is the “next trend”, or the “new color forecasts” etc. but then you find yourself all screwed up because you begin, by default, to make decisions based on filters that may not be true to you or your concept, but dictated by “the man” behind the curtain and before you know it you have created something that does not make sense and does not signify.

When I first began creating Caulfield Preparatory the story was first. I set out to dress a character first, someone I would follow, not a concept or trend. Caulfield Preparatory is a coming of age kind of novel about a boy/man that we all would walk with. I began by developing a main character (F.N. Sinclair) around whom everything would revolve around and with whom my audience, men, would embrace and women would fall in love with. A protagonist we could all relate to at some level, be inspired by and empathize with. A character that was all things to all men, our hero and enemy, courageous and weak, brilliant and foolish, famous and notorious, athletic and intellectual, reverent and rebellious, curious and innocent. The Catcher in the Rye was one of many literary inspirations personally for me that was up to the task. This is for many reasons but mainly because of several parallels psychological, moral and social between Holden and myself and I believe many others who have reason to embark upon his or her own journey and make their mark.

Complex: What is the difference between designing for the surf industry and Caulfield Preparatory?

Vincent Flumiani: Designing for the surf industry was an incredible and priceless experience of which I learned many skills from that my education could never give me. There is never, really, never a week that goes by where I am not using something I learned from my days in the surf world. However, when designing for someone else whether it be the surf industry or couture you are bound by someone else’s concept or genre and with that comes rules and lines in the sand that cannot be crossed. The very backbone of Caulfield Preparatory speaks against this. We will not and cannot be put in a box and although we have a foundation Caulfield Preparatory will be a full novel that details F.N. Sinclair’s odyssey from boy to man and we intend to dress each and every specific stage of that journey.

What are your most popular items?
Fashion Knits (sweaters)
Woven’s (3/4 Woven, Long Sleeve Woven)
Knits (Jersey Knits and Basics)

Complex: What are your retail plans for the future?

Vincent Flumiani: To open two flagship stores in Los Angeles and New York City.

Complex: Any anticipated collaborations?

Vincent Flumiani: Anticipated collaborations/dream would be Wes Anderson to direct Caulfield Preparatory feature film but seriously, there is nothing in dry cement. However, without giving away to much I leave you with these two words “women collection.” O.K. I said too much.

Complex: What do you foresee in menswear in five years?

Vincent Flumiani: Just yesterday a designer I admire told me, “I love your style Vincent, every time I see you, you’re different and I try to place you in one category and then the next time I see you, you’re in another. Just yesterday you looked like a Freddie Mercury and today you look like a Jay Gatsby”

A man’s style starts in the morning when he wakes up and ends at night when he lays his head on the pillow. Every morning needs to be a new clean blank canvas for a man. You don’t have to be who you were yesterday. You should ask yourself, who do you want to be today? What do you want to reveal about yourself and what do you want to hide and more specifically how do you feel.

True individuality comes through diversity and that I believe is the future of menswear. But who am I?

WHY WE CO SIGN: If you felt so inclined as to follow Hov and ditch Timbs this fall, there are a number of different boot brands you can drop your money on. One of them being the Los Angles based company Palladium. Founded in 1920 as a rubber tire company that manufactured and supplied tires to the wartime aviation industry, they switched it up after WWII and decided to build footwear as reliable as their tires. The result of which was the now legendary Pampa boot which was scooped up by the French Foreign Legion as their official boot.

Today, Palladium’s still sitting high up top the footwear totem pole thanks to them employing their time-tested production tactics. It’s those tactics and techniques that allow them to make boots designed for casual wear, comfort and hard-wearing durability. This fall, Palladium is re-launching their famed Pampa boot which will be followed up by special versions using Shearling lining in October.

Complex: The aviation industry heavily inspired Palladium, how has it influenced the overall look and feel of your collection?

Barney Waters: The company made aircraft tires before we made boots, so it’s part of our history. We supplied the French Foreign Legion in the late 1940’s, so we also have a military background. Canvas is one of our primary materials, which came from aircraft tires, as canvas was used as a layer under the rubber. In the old days if you wore a tire down, the threads would show through. Those threads were canvas. You’ll also see some heritage Palladium colors used in the core collection, like the original sand khaki canvas used on the Foreign Legion boot. All of this makes up our heritage, which we’ll reference, but the focus will be on what Palladium stands for today. Authenticity is important, but I don’t want the brand to be a museum.
Complex: What are your retail plans for the future?

Barney Waters: Our first collection will be available in some of the best stores in the country, like Conveyor at Fred Segal, Kitson, American Rag, Shoe Market in Brooklyn and Villains in San Francisco. We’re going to open our first Palladium store soon, probably close to our home office in LA. Having our own store will help us get a real read on what people like and don’t like, and will help us build better lines going forward.
But you’d be wrong. Canadian brand WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie offers superior quality and build with simple grown-man design that doesn’t scream to the world, “I GOT MONEY!” For the holiday season, the Peart brothers created 47 L.E. Olympic DeGaulle bags (one for each Olympic Games held since the revival of the ancient Olympic Gam). The bags are made with white leather and rep all the Olympic colors with interchangeable handles in yellow, blue, green, red and black. They cost a grip, but if you get your paper right you can cop them at stores in September. Read on to check out more of the line and an interview with the founders…

What are your most popular items for the summer and fall?
WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie: The Kansai computer portfolio, the Kennedy money clip, and the organic cotton tote collection. It’s urbane, compact design and ultra-functionality means the Kansai is the only piece you need to carry, with a section for your computer, notepad, BlackBerry, and, of course, your Kennedy money clip. The organic cotton tote collection of the lightweight, deconstructed Orly (north-south) and Mirabel (east-west) “rolled” bags are imbued with the same iconic modern design and classic style redolent of WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, but with a more playful, impulsive look. Available in nine different colors with burnt henna leather handles, these bags share the same DNA as their leather counterparts and can be effortlessly mixed and matched to create the quintessential luggage system.

What do you foresee in menswear in five years?
We believe menswear will be an increasingly exciting segment of the fashion industry. Men will want to create their very own personal style. They will invest in pieces that embody a classic authenticity but with a modern approach to shapes and fits. They will shop for items that can be passed down from generation to generation. We believe accessories will pay a vital role in helping them to curate a strong, confident, and individual style. The customers will appreciate quality over quantity, good design over fashion trends, and subtleness over ostentatiousness.

WHY WE COSIGN: Rick Klotz has been in the streetwear game since we were all no more than a wet dream on a bedsheet. Homie has paid his dues, and put in his time. Hell, Freshjive is so rock-solid, Klotz is taking the logos off the whole line for Spring. So Cosign #1: Rick Klotz is king of this shit. Cosign #2? The Warriors of Radness line takes ’80s and ’90s beach themes and turns it modern, and in turn, highly covetable items for these hot summer months. We got our own interview on with RMK, after the jump.

Complex: What is the inspiration behind Warriors of Radness?

Rick Klotz: The inspiration for the line comes specifically from my beach culture meets city culture lifestyle here in Los Angeles. Aesthetically I also take inspiration from the beach and surf style of the ’80s, when this type of fashion coming out of California was unique onto its own. Though it’s definitely inspired in part by a particular surf culture, I don’t want to consider it “surfwear”. Also, we don’t sell to typical surf stores. Typical surf stores carry a bunch of corporate garbage.

BRAND: SHAUN WHITE 4 TARGET

SINCE: Fall 2008

HOME BASE: Minneapolis, MN

FOUNDED BY: Shaun White and his brother, Jesse White
If you don’t know who “The Flying Tomato Is” you might want to brush up on your pop culture. Basically Shaun White is the guy who wins almost every major snowboard (and now some skate!) contests and the man who gives Sal Masekela a reason to get up in the morning. Look for him going for the gold in Olympic halfpipe this coming winter. Jesse, his older brother, designs the White Collection for Burton and now the Shaun White for Target collections.

WHY WE CO-SIGN: Target kills it with the collabos (Rogan, Loomstate, Matthew Williamson), but more often than not, it goes for the ladies and the guys get a back seat. Not this time. Shaun and Jesse’s first line for the brand launched last year and started out as a one-off, but it was received so well that the duo got signed on for multiple seasons as a Target staple. This fall’s collection draws inspiration from music and travel. With jeans for $30 and hoodies for $20, you really can’t beat it.

WHERE TO FIND IT: Target stores late August.

See below for our interview with Shaun and pics from the Fall 2009 Collection…

As an Olympic gold medalist and role model for young men and boarders, how has this influenced the overall look and feel of Target collection?
Shaun White: It’s awesome being able to make clothing with Target. I feel like the fall line came out exactly the way I wanted it to. There’s definitely a skate feel throughout the line, but really it’s all about whatever inspires my brother and I, which usually includes what we’re seeing as we travel and the music I’m into.

Working with your older brother Jesse, how has the collaborative design process evolved?
Shaun White: It’s great working with my brother Jesse. We work together on the overall direction for each collection, choosing fabrics, looking at color swatches, and ultimately making sure the fits are good. I see the samples and make final adjustments before they go into production.

How does the approach to the Burton collection differ from the Target collection?
Shaun White: With Target it was more about clothes that I like to wear every day. I’ve enjoyed working on the men’s line because we’ve been able to create some more styled pieces.

Any anticipated collaborations in the near future?
Shaun White: Right now I’m just really excited about my line at Target.

WHY WE CO SIGN: We do damage to the planet on the reg, and when it comes to fashion the carbon-numbers are crazy. In 2006, Levi’s found that it takes 920 gallons of water and 400 megajoules of energy to create one pair of 501’s. Granted, that’s somewhat of a hippie spin, but come on. Wearing eco clothing is where everything needs to head. Cue C Pas…

Started by the man who brought you etnies, eS, Emerica, and ThirtyTwo, Pierre Andre Senizergues‘ new side project is short for “Collection Pierre Andre Senizergues” and is a high-fashion line of eco gear. The price points are off the charts (as any fashion label would be), but by doing a line like this, Senizergues offers an alternative to the luxury brands who are pissing in the proverbial mouth of Mother Nature.

“I wanted the look and feel of the collection to be a reflection of my passion for the environment and design, paying special attention to detail and the quality of materials used,” explains Pierre. “C PAS represents a man that wants an edgy, yet classic style who stands at the forefront of this eco-evolution.”

C Pas’ fall line features clothing that is form fitting and grown, from bespoke suits to tailored casual wear that includes appropriated military fabrics (parachutes, etc.) in addition to organic cottons and wools. The collection will be launching exclusively at Colette to start (in late summer), and will make its way state-side later in the fall.

He thought of this faux acronymic label as a combination of art, music, fashion and everything else that exemplified the lifestyle he was into. And, judging from not only their current collections, but all their side projects, we’d have to tip our hat and say mission accomplished. No Bush. This fall, RVCA is bringing two collections to racks and shelves: Their main collection will date back to the brand’s skater and surfer roots, meaning less frills, more function. Along side that will be a collection designed by world famous surfer Danny Fuller. Yeah, they got cred by the boat load, skipper.

As we mentioned earlier, PM Tenore wanted to do more than push fabric. In addition to his clothing brand, he’s also established RVCA’s Artist Network Program (ANP)—a venture established to showcase the talents of accomplished and unknown artists who inspire the brand such as Danny Fuller, Barry McGee, and Leo Romero.

That reputation was due mostly to the eclectic Simon Buttonshaw-designed board shorts that helped build the brand’s reputation as cutting-edge and just flat-out cool. Moving past board shorts, Quiksilver began to develop a full clothing and accessories line featuring everything from surfwear to snowboarding gear, as it grew to become one of the biggest sportswear companies on the planet (it now owns DC and Hawk).

Now looking to go upscale with its wares for Fall 2009, Quiksilver’s upcoming premium collection, titled Quiksilver Limited, will, of course, feature pieces heavily influenced by surf culture as well as the artwork of Simon Buttonshaw and his classic Tom-Tom print. According to the folks over at QS, Quiksilver Limited is a look into future of the brand as a whole. “The Quiksilver Limited Collection is the bleeding edge of Quiksilver style,” says Design Director Steve Fontes. “It is progressive, modern, creative, refined, and casual all at the same time. We strive for fresh and innovative takes on contemporary silhouettes.” Even surfers gotta grow up at some point, right?
