Music 10 Exclusive Retail Deals For Rap’s New Generation

rappers
Well, it’s official: Prince is a genius. After the Eagles and AC/DC posted huge numbers last year releasing albums exclusively through a Walmart, Prince signed on to release a three-album set for sale only at Target. Mark our words: he’ll be platinum by June.

The trend got us thinking that some of these struggling rookie rappers could benefit from the strategy. Granted, big dog retailers like Best Buy and Target probably won’t cut exclusive deals with newcomers like Kid Cudi and Asher Roth, but we thought of some less obvious stores that might jump at the chance. In the digital age, rappers come in various packages. You've got your hood celebrities, your collar popping trendsetters, your so-called genre defying extraterrestrials. But then there's the one who manages to gain stardom by relying solely on talent, not marketing and promotion (word to KRS). That's Blu'Okayplayer's favorite color, and the current topic of interest amongst hip-hop snobs who masturbate to Primo beats (true story).

After turning down an early offer from Suge Knight, Blu went independent and pushed forth three critically acclaimed collaborative albums within 13 months: Below The Heavens (with Exile), C.R.A.C.: The Peace Talks (with Ta’Raach) and Johnson & Jonson (with Mainframe). Check out our interview with the MC to get his take on other young rappers, his past experiences at MAGIC, his future ambitions after music, and his affinity for J*DaVeY…

Art Blu’s MUTO Puts Animation On The Wall

blumuto_main.jpg
Italian artist Blu is already world-renowned for his massive wall murals, but now he’s finally brought them to life. For his new project MUTO, Blu made an increadibly ellaborate stop-motion animation video using only wall paintings in Buenos Aires and Baden. The result is a seven minute artistic epic where a surreal cast of characters move all around a series of walls, even interacting with objects on the ground. No description really does it justice, so watch it for your self below.
