10 years later, the New York-Philly alliance is finally over. After floundering in the wake of the Roc-A-Fella breakup, Beans finally put out a diss song directed at Jay-Z last night, along with an in-depth interview about his reasons. Hova’s young gunner from Philly first popped up on this Eric Sermon-produced posse cut from Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life. When we heard him rhyme “testicle” and “vestibule,” we knew Beans was onto something.

Memphis Bleek f/ Jay-Z & Beanie Sigel “Murda Murda” (2003)

This joint was originally a Jay-Z-only outtake from The Blueprint, but it always seemed a little weird that Beans wasn’t on it, since the chorus includes the line “South Philly muthafuckas kill at will!” Luckily they recorded an official version for Bleek’s third album with the Broad Street Bully.

Beanie Sigel f/ Jay-Z “It’s On” (2003)

This stand-out track from the second State Property album is a laid-back duet from Hov and Beans. Jay even spits the line, “Young Vito, voice of the young people/If my life a movie, then Sieg gon’ be the sequel.” Damn.

Jay-Z f/ Beanie Sigel & Memphis Bleek “Change The Game” (2000)

Hov’s fourth album The Dynasty: Roc La Familia prominently featured Beans on nine songs, including this West Coast-flavored hit that was produced by Rick Rock. Something about Beans on a crip-walk beat just works.

Jay-Z f/ Beanie Sigel “Ignorant Shit” (2007)

This Just Blaze-produced outtake from The Black Album popped up as an official version on Hov’s American Gangster concept album in 2007. With the exception of a forgettable album cut on Beanie’s The Solution, which dropped a month after American Gangster, this stands as their final collaboration.

There’s something magical that happens every time these three get on the same track, most famously on this hit collaboration from Scarface’s sole Def Jam album, The Fix. We’re still smellin’ crack on our clothes.

The emotional crux from The Dynasty features Jay and Beans rapping about their twisted relationships to their fathers. You thought Ghostface and The Game were the only rappers crazy enough to actually cry on tracks? Think again.

This classic posse cut from Freeway’s debut Philadelphia Freeway features an amazing performance from both MC’s. Their chemistry is especially apparent in the way that they actually flow from one verse to the other. “B. Sieg in the third lane!” MAYNE.

Jay-Z f/ Beanie Sigel & Amil “Do It Again (Throw Your Hands Up)” (1999)

The lead single from Vol. 3…The Life & Times of S. Carter seemed to catch people a little off-guard when it came out, with its unusual beat that sampled a go-go song. But as the years have gone by, this stands as one of Hov’s most reliable club-bangers, aided greatly by Beans’ memorable verse: “Got bitches in the back bounce-in-to-Jig-ga-what. Got ya hands up and I ain’t even stick ya’ll up.” Just make sure you change the record before Amil comes on!

The original Jay/Beans/Face collabo from The Dynasty remains one of Jay-Z’s greatest songs ever. On the classic early Kanye beat, each MC shows their vulnerable side, telling autobiographical stories about loss and personal frustrations. “Don’t worry, if it was meant to be, it’ll be soon.”

WHO SNUFFED: Keith Murray
WHO GOT SNUFFED: Prodigy
• Keith Murray felt like Prodigy was dissing Def Squad when the Queens rapper took shots at MCs who only rap about weed and “space shit” on The Infamous. The feud was settled at an Onyx video shoot only for it escalate again in 1996 when P rapped “some pussy niggas feeling guilty about some space shit” on LL Cool’s posse cut (featuring Keith Murray) “I Shot Ya.” Murray reportedly proceeded to rock Prodigy in the face, possibly trying to stab his brain with his nosebone, when the two crossed paths at legendary NYC venue Tunnel shortly thereafter. Continuing the trend of sonning P, Saigon snuffed Prodigy onstage at his own show a decade later.

WHO GOT SNUFFED: Q-Tip
• New Jack Swing was like the Auto-Tune of the early ’90s, widely popular and widely hated on at the same time. Many took shots at the genre, but Teddy Riley and his group Wreckx-N-Effect made an example of Q-Tip in retaliation to Phife’s “strictly hardcore tracks, not a New Jack Swing” line on ATCQ’s “Jazz (We’ve Got).” True to their name, one of Tip’s eyes was wrecked and he was forced to wear a ski mask in the “Hot Sex” video. Ouchy.

• No deep beef history here. While on tour together last summer, Yung Berg got wind of some allegedly disrespectful comments from Maino and approached him in a nightclub about “talking reckless.” Maino didn’t take well to Berg’s aggressive approach and resulted to “disciplinary tactics,” slapping the young rapper in the face. Disgruntled rapper or confrontational fan, no one is safe from Maino’s open palm.

• What would any list of hip-hop altercations be without these two? Their list of confrontations seems endless, but an actual snuffing was the center of only one particular incident. Back in 1999, both artists were booked on the same bill in Atlanta and approached one another at a hotel they were both staying at. What started as a supposed peace talk quickly escalated and led to Curtis socking Jeffrey. Ja maintains that he hit 50 back immediately. Righttt.

This prompted Fat Joe to approach Papoose backstage at a North Carolina concert soon after, asking the rapper, “You got a problem with me?” Supposedly, Papoose said that he didn’t and asked Joe the same question. When Joe made it clear that he did have a problem, Papoose allegedly punched him in the face twice.

• Marshall mentioned the diva in song twice on his third album. He rapped “What you trying be? My new wife? / What, you Mariah? Fly through twice” on “Superman” and on “When The Music Stops” suggested that he would “beg Mariah to take [him] back” before censoring his lyrics.

2002: Eminem Confirms The Fling
• When asked about the relationship by Rolling Stone, Em answered, “There’s truth to that. But on the whole personal level, I’m not really feeling it. I just don’t like her as a person.”

2002: Mariah Denies Romance Rumors
• MC told Maxim that there was no “sexual relationship” between her and Slim Shady. She later told Larry King: “I hung out with him, I spoke to him on the phone. I think I was probably with him a total of four times. And I don’t consider that dating somebody.”

2002: Mariah Carey Clowns Slim Shady
• On “Clown” from Charmbracelet, the singer ambiguously addressed the relationship, saying that she “should’ve left it at I like your music too” and insinuates that the only reason she flew to Eminem’s house is because “taking [her] G5 twenty minutes wasn’t nothing.”

2003: The Diva Takes The Beef To The Stage
• Mariah’s 2003 tour included a The Marionette Show set that parodied The Eminem Show. While performing the aforementioned “Clown” a female dancer was brought on stage sporting a blonde wig and a Detroit Pistons jersey. She never said, “no shots” so it’s clear who the target was.

2005: Eminem Responds On His Own Tour
• During the Anger Management tour, Eminem played voicemail messages allegedly from Mariah with her saying “Why won’t you see me? Why won’t you call me?” amongst other longing statements. One of Mariah’s friends told the press that an “impostor” had recorded the messages.

2006: Marshall Mentions Mimi In Song Again
• Refusing to let the issue die, Slim talked about sexing the singer on “Jimmy Crack Corn” from the Re-Up album. “Your mind’s on us like mine’s on Mariah / And y’all are just like her, you’re all fucking liars / But I’ll just keep fucking you like I fucked her / Right in the ass with KY yes sir.”

2006: Em Lashes Out On The Radio
• While visiting his Shade 45 satellite radio station to promote The Re-Up, Em continued to address his relationship with Mariah. In between calling her a “bitch” and “cunt” he admitted that they “did have a relationship for about a good six, seven months.” He cited their personalities differences as the demise of the relationship and even complimented her talent, but was bothered by “the fact that she denied [they] ever had something.”

2007: Curtis Co-Signs Marshall
• On “All Of Me” from his Curtis album, 50 Cent spit: “Em predicted it all, I don’t know how he knew it / He said women from Hollywood they liars, liars, liars / You fuck them, they get you heated, deny it like Mariah.”

2009: Eminem Drops A Bomb On The Newlyweds
• After two years of silence, Mariah’s marriage to Nick Cannon set the rapper off and inspired Relapse’s “Bagpipes From Baghdad” where he calls Nick Cannon a “prick” and wishes him “luck with the fucking whore” amongst other insults. The song led to a lengthy blog post from Nick Cannon where he defended his wife, claimed Eminem never got to “second base,” and called him racist.

2009: Mimi Thinks Marshall Is Obsessed
• “Obsessed”, the first single from MC’s upcoming album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, seems to be a clear shot at Eminem, despite her and her husband’s denial of any beef. Mariah’s decision to portray a stalker in a very Eminem-like outfit for the music video makes it even harder to take the claims seriously.

2009: Eminem Ethers Mariah Carey
• Taking offense to “Obsessed” and Mariah’s constant denial of any previous romantic involvement, Eminem released this scathing diss track aimed at Mariah and her husband yesterday. He goes into graphic detail about their one sexual encounter and threatens to release incriminating pictures and audio confirming their relationship.

You might not guess it, but rappers do have the ability to be nicer, more understanding guys than they’re given credit for, as these type of peace talks aren’t all that uncommon. There have been several in the recent years, in fact. Here are the five most heartwarming of the bunch…

RAPPERS: 50 Cent & The Game
CONFLICT: Game’s disloyalty to G-Unit, blah blah, do we really have to go over this again?
RESOLUTION: The two publicly squashed their beef at a March 2005 press conference in Harlem. The peace didn’t last, but the warmth of the embrace (and kiss?) pictured above will live on forever.

RAPPERS: Diddy & The Lox
CONFLICT: Diddy owning half of The Lox’s publishing despite them only releasing one album on Bad Boy.
RESOLUTION: Just one month after performing with Diddy in late 2005, The Lox went on Hot 97 to complain about him owning so much of their music (and threatening to push a fridge over a skyscraper on his head) before Mr. Combs himself called in to counter their claims. After all the tough talk, both parties heavily co-signed one another while promoting Jadakiss’ The Last Kiss on 106 & Park earlier this year.

RAPPERS: Common & Ice Cube
CONFLICT: Ice Cube took offense to Common’s portrayal of gangster rap on “I Used To Love H.E.R.” and dissed him on “Westside Slaughterhouse.” Com then ethered the whole click with “The Bitch In Yoo.”
RESOLUTION: The death of Tupac and Biggie inspired Minister Louis Farrakhan to host The Nation of Islam Peace Summit aimed at deterring violence in hip-hop. Multiple feuds were resolved, but the pivotal moment came when Ice Cube got up and hugged Common. They didn’t have to “pause” that back then.

RAPPERS: Snoop Dogg & West Coast rappers
CONFLICT: Left Coast inter-conflicts in general.
RESOLUTION: Lots of rappers no one really cares about were in attendance to settle beefs no one really cares about at the 2005 “Protect The West” peace conference (organized by Snoop and Steve Harvey), but it’s the thought that counts. Snoop told MTV: “I felt we should come together as one, organize, unify and start making records with each other and be about a cause.” Lil’ Eazy E later claimed it was a PR stunt on Snoop’s part. As if him telling the press that was any different.

RAPPERS: Jay-Z & Nas
CONFLICT: “Takeover,” “Ether,” Carmen, condoms on the baby seat, etc.
RESOLUTION: There was no overblown media event to signal the end of this beef (the MTV interview was after the fact), but inviting the guy who said you had “dick sucking lips” to perform on stage with you is pretty peaceful. Dare we say, Jay’s “I Declare War’ concert was heartwarming?

It wasn’t a TKO in any sense, but don’t think Jayceon’s going to throw in the towel anytime soon. • Cause: Who really knows? The Game has been dissing and praising Jay-Z since his first album. “Dear Summer”, particularly the DJ Clue version, was once viewed as Hov’s most open diss towards Game. They also traded subliminal lines on Game’s “It’s Okay (One Blood)” and Jay’s “The Prelude.”

• Cause: Ras Kass confronted The Game in an L.A. nightclub about lyrics he felt were directed towards his son. The situation got heated and led to Game supposedly hitting Ras over the head with a bottle, although that has been disputed.

Proving that rappers aren’t the only musicians with thin skin and too much time on their hands, indie rockers Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips (above, left) and Win Butler of the Arcade Fire(above, right) have apparently ignited a much-dreaded hipster beef this week. First Coyne went in on Butler and his group, saying that AF “really treat people like shit” and calling them “pricks.” Butler then fired back, questioning whether Coyne is the “best judge if we are righteous, kind and goodhearted people.” (Ho snap! That’s cold.) Last we heard, Coyne was planning a series of Worldstar diss videos featuring his alter ego Slouchin’ Spencer and had unearthed photos of Butler littering. Slow down, people! Increase the peace before somebody’s ironic t-shirt gets ripped!

NEIL YOUNG VS. LYNYRD SKYNYRD

Taking exception to lyrics in Young’s songs “Southern Man” and “Alabama,” Skynyrd penned “Sweet Home Alabama” featuring the line: “I hope Neil Young will remember/A Southern man don’t need him around, anyhow.” The beef didn’t last long though, with Skynyrd frontman Ronnie Van Zant later rocking Neil Young tees in concert, and Young playing “Sweet Home” in concert after members of LS were killed in a plane crash.

The fellow Rolling Stones started beefing publicly in the mid-’80s when Jagger embarked on a solo career and called the Stones “tired old men.” Of course they’ve managed to stay together another 25+ years (funny how making shitloads of money will do that) even though Keith mocked Mick onstage for having a “small cock” in 2005.

NIRVANA VS. PEARL JAM

Kurt Cobain accused PJ of being sellouts for having too many guitar solos on their debut album Ten, but that’s probably not the reason he killed himself.

KID ROCK VS. TOMMY LEE

Both former husbands of Pamela Anderson, Rock and Lee got into a fight at the 2007 VMAs, but they made up later that evening after sharing some homemade Oxycontin (this last part is, alas, totally made up).

Guitarists for rival Norwegian black metal bands Burzum and Mayhem, Varg and Oystein were once pals, with Euronymous contributing background fist beatings on the Burzum track “Dungeons of Darkness.” Then Vikernes started burning churches before eventually stabbing Oystein to death. However, contrary to popular myth, he did not yell “Euronymo!” while doing so.

• RAP BEEF EQUIVALENT: Let’s see, dude starts burning churches and then stabs the leader of another group, maybe KRS-One vs. P.M. Dawn? Ah, who the fuck are we kidding, even rap’s not that crazy.

• The rap public scoffed when Ross boasted that he knew “Noriega'the real Noriega” on his debut single, “Husltin’.” We still don’t believe the hyperbolic boast, but his “realness” would seem a lot less fraudulent if he finally hooked up with the former De Facto Leader of Panama on a track. We’d even settle for a phoned-in interlude live from the bing.

Yung Berg Takes Aim At Brisco

After making a hilarious remark about his own album being pushed back like Flo-Rida’s hairline, Berg became the target of Flo-Rida’s cousin, Brisco. After repeatedly attempting to squash the beef, YB couldn’t take it any more. In a recent interview on the Sirius Satellite Radio show Lipservice, Berg makes it clear he’s ready to get physical with Brisco, claiming that he’ll punch him in the f’ing mouth the next time he sees him.

Tyga Discusses His Robbery

After Tyga was robbed for his Young Money chain, G-Unit affiliate 40 Glocc claimed he was behind it.
