Wake N’ Watch: Dinosaur Jr. “Feel The Pain” / “Over It”

This morning on Wake N’ Watch, we’re bringing you a double feature. First up is a claaaaasic joint from highly-influential alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr.: the 1994 video for “Feel The Pain.” This staple of MTV’s 120 Minutes was directed by none other than Spike Jonze in the prime of his video-directing heyday. Who else would take a kinda awkward band from Amherst, Massachusetts, give ’em a golf cart and let them tee off in the middle of NYC? Oh, and ’90s Babies probably know “Feel The Pain” from Guitar Hero. *Pats on head* Thanks for coming by, guys.

Why are we playing this? Well, Dinosaur Jr.’s fifth studio album Farm drops today, and J. Mascis and the gang are definitely still dope—even with grey hair! Watch the old-timers skateboarding in their new video “Over It” below…

Beck & Danger Mouse Team Up On “Chemtrails”

From MF Doom to Cee-Lo, Danger Mouse has worked with some of the best. But if there’s one artist we would have paired him to do an album with, it’s the always unpredictable Beck.

The singer/songwriter has spent his 14 year career weaving in and out of different genres, and Danger Mouse has been experimenting with a similiar brew of rock, hip-hop, and electronica since coming on the scene in 2003. The two have been hard at work on Beck’s 8th studio album, Modern Guilt, which is due in stores this fall. After the jump, listen to “Chemtrails,” the first taste that leaked yesterday.

Portishead Gets Animated In “The Rip” Video

After the grainy, low-fi performance video for their comeback single “Machine Gun,” we had been hoping that Portishead would choose a more striking visual for the follow up. So on the second video from their latest album Third, the Bristol-based trio turned to indie-director Nick Uff to bring “The Rip” to life. The hazy, hypnotic animation was all hand-drawn and recorded on 16mm film, lending a raw feel to the scenes that are half dream and half nightmare. Watch things get warped out after the jump.

Gnarls Barkley Keeps “Going On” With New Video

After their trippy dance party video for “Run” got banned for not passing the Harding seizure test, Gnarls Barkley’s new album The Odd Couple didn’t get as much commercial shine as it should have. So it’s probably good that the video for their new single “Going On” keeps the mind-bending psychedelic visuals to a minimum. The story follows a group of kids celebrating on their way to a mystical door that leads to another dimension. What lies beyond the door is an unknown unknown, but we’re guessing it’ll probably give you seizures too. Watch the video after the jump.
