As a collection, the story of a disbanded team of flawed, masked vigilantes trying to solve the murder of one of their own and prevent nuclear holocaust in an alternate 1985 has gone on to become one of the best-selling books of all time and led to generations of fawning fanboys.

Over 20 years after producer Lawrence Gordon first bought the rights to Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel, the Watchmen movie is finally coming to life. While the flick doesn’t drop until March 2009, the first trailer (which will be playing before screenings of The Dark Knight this weekend) leaked out late yesterday.
There’s been a lot of speculation about whether or not a complex character study like this can ever be done justice in a two hour movie. But even the biggest skeptics have to admit that the trailer makes it look like director Zack Snyder (300) is on the right track. And damn, Jeffrey Dean Morgan really does look exactly like The Comedian. Watch it below.
