Last week, we asked the question: “Who did it better?” and pitted the Atmos x Reebok Ex-O-Fit against ithe Nike Air Yeezy. We thought the debate was fun, so we’re going to bring you a similar matchup each Monday.
For this week’s challenge, we’re taking a selection from the spring Hundreds Footware collection and putting it up against a modern classic. On the left, the Cali brand is re-introducing its Valenzuela style, a low that takes design cues from the Converse Chuck Taylor. In the other corner, we’ll put Converse’s CTS Low from the CONS skate line. The new spring product just went online as well, and we’re excited to check it out the latest make up of this comfy skate shoe. We want to hear from you: Which of the Spring takedowns of the Chuck Taylor is better? The Hundreds Valenzuela or the CONS CTS? Hit the jump to see bigger pics and for your chance to vote and be heard.
The Internet is a big place, and there is a lot of crap that hits the hype and sneaker sites each week. To help wade through the muck, we’re editing down the sneaker flow into the top five sneakers online each Friday afternoon. Some of these are a heads up (the Nike AF1 All Stars go on sale tomorrow, and the Andy Kessler Syndicates drop this month) and others are previews of things to come (the Vans Mountain Edition gum soles are sick). Hit the jump for the top five sneaker happenings in the game for the week of February 1st, 2010…
Air Foamposite Copper(Release date pushed back)@_MAYOR_
This past Tuesday we started our first edition of “Twit-Kicks” which turned out great with responses from Mayor, DJ Clark Kent, Matt Halfhill, and G-Roc from The Shoe Game. Today Mayor and The Shoe Game are back to lead Twit-Kick day 2.
Remember, every Tuesday and Thursday we will ask our twitter followers to twit-pic the sneakers they’re rocking that day, and then we’ll compile the best-of-the-best to be featured right here on Complex.com. Today along with the heavyweights, newcomers like ninofly and the homie DctoBc bring some heat of their own. Check below to see which kicks people were wearing, and don’t forget to follow @ComplexMag and send us your sneak-pics on Tuesday and Thursday mornings…
Drizzy had Supra’s TK Society’s way before you did
Sure he may not be known as the ultimate celebrity sneakerhead, but don’t sleep on Drake’s shoegame. In addition to his “OVO Click” boasting an endless supply of Red Wings, Drizzy also enjoys lacing up noteworthy kicks like Jordans, Yeezys and Converse Chuck Taylor’s like the rest of us. This past Sunday at the Grammy’s, Drake rocked Ronnie Fieg x Red Wing 6″ Boots, and after we did some digging we found that Drake is no newcomer when it comes to neck-breaking footwear. Don’t believe us? Hit the jump to see the current Complex Cover star’s greatest footwear moments…
adidas ZX’s started out subtle, then more recently they got a little nuts, and now it seems they’re back to being simple, and…awesome. The ZX800 originally dropped in 1986, but we’re thinking a new batch might be coming back for 2010, with this black/white make-up hitting overseas retailer Cali Roots. If you’re feeling them, hit up your Swedish connect, or hit up the comments and help bring these to adidas Originals stores in the states. $128, www.caliroots.com
While some people use twitter the wrong way (see: Tila Tequila), today we started our first edition of “Twit-Kicks.” From now on, every Tuesday and Thursday we will ask our twitter followers to twit-pic the sneakers they are wearing that day, and then will compile them into a showcase of the best kicks in the afternoon. Today we got some big names in the sneaker game (DJ Clark Kent, Mayor, Matt Halfhill, G-Roc from The Shoe Game and Complex’s own Bradley Carbone) to contribute, as well as some of you, our twitter followers. Check below to see which kicks people were wearing, and don’t forget to follow @ComplexMag and sent us your sneak-pics on Tuesday and Thursday mornings…
Last week, we got a look at the fourth collaboration between Reebok and the Japanese brand Atmos on the Ex-O-Fit-High Strap. Atmos has killed the sneaker game for years, but when the newest version went up, it made us say hmm. We’ve been calling the Exo-O-Fit the “Un’Yeezy” but this seems to take it a whole new level. What do you think?
The argument for Reebok is that they already had this sneaker (it originally debuted in 1982) and that its designers (or collaborators) can do whatever suits them, Yeezy be damned. That’s where you come in. Is the Atmos Ex-O-Fit better? Hit the jump for close ups of the two shoes and vote on which sneaker looks better.
Not just a daily resource for all that’s going on in the sneaker game, Nice Kicks will open a retail space on February 27, 2010 in Austin, Texas. According to store owner Matt Halfhill, the space that’s located a block away from the University Of Texas will shelve Nike, adidas Originals, Supra, Converse, Pro Keds, New Balance and more footwear accounts. The grand opening will feature a day-long event and a launch party that will be attended by some of the sneaker industry’s big names. Watch the teaser video of the shop being set up, above.
A couple months ago, we sat down with DJ Clark Kent to get his picks for the Top 50 Air Force 1s of all time. But of course, that’s just one man’s opinion. For our latest sneaker countdown, we linked up with Clark’s ATF brethren and Air Force 1 kingpin Mayor to get his list of 50 AF1s.
Mayor, who owns just under 1200 pairs of crispy Air Force 1s, has made a name for himself as a major player in the sneaker game and even has his own sneaker Ustream show on Thursday and Sunday nights. In Mayor’s top 50, you’ll find a bunch of highly sought after Air Forces and special make-ups that even veteran sneakerheads would go nuts over. But which models made the cut? Check out the link below to see Mayor’s favorite fifty…
By now, everyone is aware of the tragic earthquake that took place in Haiti this past week. Our network partner, Nice Kicks took to twitter for Austin area sneakerheads to join in on a project that would send sneakers to Haiti. After receiving a great response via the social networking site, Nice Kicks then teamed up with Soles4Souls—a charity that is aiding in bringing footwear to the victims of the awful disaster. In addition to contributing new or gently worn shoes that will be shipped to Haiti you can also donate $5 via text message. Here are the ways to contribute to the charity:
1) Text “SHOES” to 20222 to donate $5 to Soles4Souls.
2) Send any new or gently worn shoes to:

Fresh off Complex’s look back at the Top 10 Sneakers of 2009 that sent the sneaker-heads into a commenting frenzy, we tapped our network homie Khan from KicksOnFire.com to get his take on the sneakers he’s looking forward to the most in 2010. Judging by the list KicksOnFire came up with, we can expect new color schemes on classic silhouettes, as well as a Kobe/Lebron duel and new make-ups from Nike SB to rule 2010. Check which models made the list, and which sneaker or sneakers Kicks On Fire is looking forward to the most in the new year, after the jump…
It’s no secret that Jordans are a mainstay in celebrities closets, just check old episodes of MTV Cribs, Concreteloop or the YBF on the daily, and you’ll see what we mean. These days, rappers and R&B singers rock the Jumpman logo on the regular, but what about when celebrities from other worlds try to pull them off?
Last night while making his return to the WWEBret Hart awkwardly rocked a pair of black-on-grey True Flights that had the sneaker-heads buzzin’ on Twitter and Nike Talk. Sure Bret may be the latest unexpected celeb to lace up a pair of J’s, but he’s definitely not the first. Keep reading to see our roster of the most random celebrity Jordan heads…
What are the best sneakers of 2009? To answer this question, we assembled a panel of sneaker experts, including Matt Halfhill (founder of NiceKicks.com), DJ Clark Kent (God’s favorite DJ), Mayor (AF1 King), Chris Vidal (ALIFE Manager), and Wil Whitney (head coach of 21 Mercer and founder of Nom de Guerre). Last week, each expert shared their personal Top 10, and now everyone is coming together to determine the official Top 10 Sneakers of 2009. We even caught the whole debate on video.
After a lot of back-and-forth, and narrowing down of the list, the Lebron VII was the #1 pick out of this year’s best sneakers. The seventh signature shoe King James was blessed with, was a special one for a few reasons. The Flywire upper and the Max Air airbag unit was near-revolutionary when it came to comfort in a basketball shoe, and from an aesthetic standpoint, the sneaker didn’t disappoint either. Nike dropped sick colorways from the jump, and as you’ll see in the video our panel felt strongly that this was one of the rare basketball sneakers that looked as good off the court, as it did on-court. Check the video below to see exactly why it landed at #1, and we’ll see you back here next year at this time when it’s time to discuss the best of 2010…

2009 concluded with the Amsterdam shop Patta dropping multiple colorways of the Air Max 1, with one being better than the next. The Patta crew celebrated its 5 year anniversary in 2009, and the Air Max 1 was the greatest of the collectives year of collaborations. The Patta Air Max was widely regarded as a top release of the year, and the four-part series included a multi-colored multi-material Air Max 1, a purple denim colorway, a green denim colorway, and the black version that just released that is just about as hot fire as it gets. Chris Vidal points out in the accompanying video that different people on the panel liked different colorups for different reasons, what was your favorite? Check the video below, and stay tuned until tomorrow when we’ll drop the #1 sneaker of the year!

Jordan went back to back in the top five (the True Blues were #4), and for good reason. Space Jams were a maddening Christmas release with people actually lining up in the streets again. Lining up! Like it’s 2007 or something! There’s really not much to say about these puppies other than, “Space Jams”. Space Jams is Space Jams, and the sneakers are a must for any true collector. Sick. Check the video below of the very one-sided #3 discussion, and stay tuned for the #2 video that drops tomorrow.
