Attention To Retail

pepsi_complex.jpg
Designer soda cans by Pepsi were just the beginning. Now the best thing since their Michael Jackson Super Bowl commercials—Pepsi recently teamed up with Complex for an in-depth tour of our hand-picked sneaker and lifestyle boutiques. Complex’s own DJ treats and Erica hit stores on the East coast and West coast respectively to speak with store managers like Dave Ortiz from Dave’s Quality Meat, and hook-up kids with new looks for this season. Click here to see more store highlights.

Window Shopping, Literally!

borisx-large.jpg
Here’s a cool way to avoid long lines, obnoxious store clerks, women with double strollers, and aimless browsing around. Polo Ralph Lauren is experimenting in London with a new touch screen technology that allows potential shoppers to use its store windows as a virtual store:

Just like the regular store windows, it shows the merchandise available in the store. The purveyor of classy apparel, accessories, fragrances and eyewear has installed a giant computer like screen just outside their London store. This enables you to shop at anytime of the day or night……you don’t have to rush before the store’s closing time.

Even though it’s too early to tell if this technology will work, we’re all for any advancements that can diminish human interaction as much as possible.

Fila Joins the Supreme Team

supreme5.jpg
The Fila x Supreme collabo is dropping at the Hideout Store in London, but we figured it was worth a mention regardless of the fact that most of you reading this are US based (although, we know some of you jetsetters could be crossing the Atlantic tonight). So if you happen to be strolling along the River Thames this weekend, cop this collabo and be the ultimate bastard child of The Royal Tenenbaums meet Streetwear. And if you want to rock this look from head to torso, they got you covered: jackets, polo shirts, headbands and wristbands.

Uniqlo Paper: Volume 2

terry.jpg
Ya gotta hand it to Japanese retailer Uniqlo for keeping things fresh and relevant. Not only do they come to NYC and open up a cleanly designed store in Soho, sell t-shirts in tubes, and offer other great deals on gear, they also publish their very own free lifestyle/fashion magazine that is better than most on the newsstands. It’s called Uniqlo Paper and its 2nd issue features a Q&A about style with none other than Dipset’s fashion ambassador Juelz Santana. It’s also sprinkled with some hot models. Plus they’ve got downtown perv staple Terry Richardson and all the weirdos that come with him. You can grab yourself a print version at their Soho flagship store, or check it out online.

Never Pay Retail

retail_me_not.jpg
We’ve never been into coupon clipping. For us, that was mainly the work of middle aged stay at home moms planning their next grocery assault maneuvers. But now that online commerce is becoming the norm, and cooler products are consistently being offered over the ‘internets,’ we’re rethinking the whole coupon clipping stigma. RetailMeNot.com is a new deal-finding site that handles all the heavy lifting when searching for coupon codes. All you have to do is seek and ye shall find. And we’re not just talking discounts at Old Navy, Papa John’s, or Turbotax, but deals on websites you might actually frequent like Amazon or even more importantly, Karmaloop. So i you’re gonna buy shit online might as well see if there’s a coupon to go with it.

A New Angle To Exclusivity: Pre-Paid Gift Card

PRPL_CARD2.jpg
We thought the lack of a sign out front, no clear markings on the door, and having to be buzzed in made the ALIFE Rivington Club in NYC’s Lower East Side, just about exclusive as it gets when it comes to sneaker boutiques. Well, looks like the ALIFE crew are taking things up a notch and releasing this special “Club Priority Card.” This limited edition (how could it not be?) gift card, that you can add money to, gives card holders first dibs on all new drops:

Card holders will have pre-release information, guaranteed availability to purchase upcoming limited edition shoes.

Just make sure you got some money on that thing. Cause if you show up and all you’ve got to show is your “limited edition” purple card with a zero balance, well it’s to the back of the line with the rest of the sneaker plebs.
