Ong Bak 2 Has More Fight Left

ongbak2_main.jpg
If you’re a long time fan of martial arts movies, then you probably feel like you’ve seen it all. After all the classics, it’s no surprise that the genre can get a little formulaic sometimes. But when Thai stunt man Tony Jaa broke out in 2003’s Ong-Bank: Muay Thai Warrior, it was clear that this was different. In an era when impossible moves are faked with wires and CGI, Jaa wowed audiences with his 100% real acrobatics and intense combat skills.

Now the phenom is back in Ong Bak 2, his directorial debut. A promo reel for the movie just leaked to the internet, and it shows an emphasis on some new weapons as well as a stunning fight scene on top of a pack of elephants. Looks like it might live up to the reputation of the original when it hits theaters some time later this year. Watch the promo reel below.

The Incredible Hulk Is Less Than Smashing

hulkposter_main.jpgTHE INCREDIBLE HULK SQUASH PREVIOUS ANG LEE HULK FILM TURD!!! Granted, it’s not difficult to improve upon a movie that nearly made Ayo! Scott choke to death on his own vomit (Ayo! fell asleep while watching). What is difficult is taking a one-note superhero and making audiences care about him. Seriously, Ashanti’s windpipe game displays greater range.

There is something compelling about a man living in fear of the beast that lurks within him (just look at how many hits Monstersofcock.com gets daily). The cursed Dr. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) has to run from the military and avoid contact with loved ones for fear he might hurt them. Worst of all, he can’t smash the Brazilian model who lusts after him because his fully excited Hulk unit would explode her (Talk about not being green with penis envy!).

Unfortunately, it’s the “star of the show,” Hulk, who creates a big problem for the movie. Ayo! Scott was at Comic Con in 2007 and heard all about how exciting new technology would transfer Norton’s facial expressions to Hulk’s face, allowing him to emote like a thespian. Other than one (admittedly fresh) transformation scene, Norton is imperceptible. For much of his tour de brute force, CGI Hulk is either pissed off, really pissed off, or really fucking pissed off. On the rare occasion he’s not roaring or grunting, he inexplicably transforms into a super-sized bitch, getting sappy around Banner’s piece Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) and wincing when he bumps his head—even though he’s just shrugged off bullets like they were a mild case of jock itch. Ultimately, the new and improved Hulk didn’t make Ayo! choke on his own vomit, just cough up a little bile. See the trailer and Complex’s own 3-minute reenactment after the jump.

Spike Lee Goes To War In Miracle At St. Anna

miraclestanna_main.jpg
At a recent press conference at Cannes, director Spike Lee sparked controversy when he berated Clint Eastwood for making two WWII films in a row—Flags Of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima—with no black actors. If you need proof that African-American soldiers did play a role in the war, look no further than Spike’s new movie Miracle At St. Anna.

The flick, which stars Derek Luke, Michael Ealy and Laz Alonso, follows the story of four soldiers from the all-black Buffalo Soldiers Infantry Division who get trapped behind enemy lines in a small Italian village, where they witnessed the Sant’Anna di Stazzema massacre. The film hits theaters on September 26, so get an early taste with the trailer below.

Jay Baruchel And Seth Rogen Vs. The Apocalypse

jaysethapocolypse_main.jpgIt’s easy to imagine what brolic action stars like Will Smith would do if they survived the end of the world, but what about some regular schlub like you? In their upcoming movie Jay and Seth Vs. The Apocalypse, former Knocked Up co-stars Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel reunite to prove that instant death is not the only option. Holing yourselves up in your house until you go crazy is also a viable route.

The idea was originally made into a short last year, but now Mandate Pictures has hired Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who wrote Superbad together) to turn it into a full feature-length movie. We’re anticipating the best horror/comedy since Shaun Of The Dead. The film isn’t expected to hit theaters until 2009, so watch a trailer of the original short below.

Coen Brothers Expose The C.I.A. In ‘Burn After Reading’

burnafterreading_main.jpg
After last year’s No Country For Old Men, we were starting to worry that the Coen Brothers might have lost their sense of humor. Well, we’re happy to report their their new flick Burn After Reading looks like it might return to the dark comedy flavor of Coen favorites like The Big Lebowski or Raising Arizona.

The film centers around a CIA agent played by John Malkovich who decides to write a tell-all memoir exposing government secrets. A CD of his sensitive documents fall into the hands of a gym employee (played by Brad Pitt), who tries to use it for blackmail fodder to pay for his wife’s plastic surgery. The government then sends George Clooney to put a lid on the whole sitiuation. The flick will debut at the Venice Film Festival in August and then in theaters on September 12. Check out the trailer below.

Hunter S. Thompson Explained In Gonzo Movie

gonzomovie_main.jpg
If you’ve read or watched Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, then you know the legend of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, the innovative journalist whose wild drug-fueled adventures became just as famous as his manic, “gonzo”-style observations. But who was the real man behind the ether? Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney’s new documentary Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson strives to profile the late writer like never before.

Narrated by HST’s close friend Johnny Depp, the film uses reenactments of his life, scenes from his movies and interviews with friends like President Jimmy Carter and Hell’s Angels bigwig Sonny Barger to unravel his outrageous life. The film hits theaters on July 4, so get familiar with the trailer below.

Bill Maher Boxes With God In Religulous

religulous_main.jpg
Does religion make us crazy, or does it keep us away from the edge of insanity? This is the question that Superhead’s ex boyfriend Bill Maher addresses in an upcoming documentary called Religulous, which will hit theatres on October 3. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat, Seinfeld), the film features interviews with a wide variety of believers and religious figures, from Christian Senators to Gay Muslim activists.

“I wanted to make a documentary, and I wanted it to be funny,” says Maher, who is famously anti-organized religion. “In fact, since there is nothing more ridiculous than the ancient mythological stories that live on as today’s religions, this movie would try to be a real knee-slapper. Unless, of course, you’re religious; then you might not like it.” Watch the trailer after the jump.

Woody Harrelson’s Transsiberian Trek

transiberian_main.jpg
In the great tradition of railway-related thrillers like Hitchcock’s Strangers On A Train comes Transsiberian, the new flick from indie director Brad Anderson (The Machinist). The story follows two Americans (Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer) who meet a mysterious couple while making the week-long trek from China to Moscow on the Trans-Siberian Railway.

It turns out that the couple are actually drug dealers, and by the time a Russian detective (played by Ben Kingsley) shows up, Woody and Emily realize they’ve been framed in some sort of crazy drug-murder plot. The flick was a hit at Sundance, and now it’s finally getting a limited release in the U.S. this August. Watch the new trailer below.

Mother Of Tears Ends Argento’s Horror Trilogy

motheroftears_main.jpg
If you’ve never seen 1977’s Suspiria and 1980’s Inferno, you’re missing two of the most intense horror movies of all time. Acclaimed Italian director Dario Argento created the two films back to back, hoping that they would be the first two installments in his Three Mothers trilogy that revolves around a trio of evil witches.

Well, after 28 years, the final film in the trilogy is finally hitting theatres. Mother Of Tears, which stars the director’s daughter Asia Argento (you might remember her from XXX), follows the story of an American student in Rome who uncovers an ancient urn that unleashes the power of a witch upon the city. Argento’s movies are known for their stylish use of color and sound, along with a tendency towards amble gore and sex. The film is getting a limited U.S. release on Friday (June 6), so check out the trailer below.
