On Oct 29, Havaianas and Complex celebrated the Havaianas Model Search with a Brazilian Pool Party at the Hotel Shangri-La in Los Angeles. Hosted by Model Search Winner, Jessica Riccardi, the evening included a hot Brazilian funk soundtrack from DJ Ross One and live samba drummers. Guests had the chance to create their own Havaianas flip flops at a “build your own” station within the party, pick up gift bags and enjoy complimentary Veev Acai Spirit cocktails throughout the night. If you’re trying to get away from the madness in Midtown Manhattan, it’s tough to find a local spot to kick back, relax and have a drink after work. That’s why we were excited to finally get a chance to check out mad46, the rooftop lounge at the classy Roosevelt Hotel. They were kind enough to let us use the secluded spot for our recent Hot Complex: Jamie Chung photoshoot, and it definitely made an impression.
After ascending 19 floors on the private elevator, you’ll be struck by the amount of space and stunning views of NYC vistas like Times Square and Madison Ave. Located on Madison at 46th street, the spot is open 6 days a week (5 p.m.-Midnight on weeknights, 8 p.m.-2 a.m. on Saturday). Kid Cudi is becoming synonymous with packing out retail shops (Bape store anyone?). Last Thursday night, more than 500 guests lined up outside the grand opening of the Boost Mobile store in Brooklyn on Flatbush Avenue. Hot 97’s Funk Master Flex threw down on the 1’s and 2’s while Kid Cudi addressed a screaming crowd by signing autographs and donating $10K to the Urban Assembly School of Music and Arts.

On July 28, a gang of celebrities descended on The London Hotel West in Los Angeles for the launch of the new TAG Signature Series body spray line, which features scents from Rob Dyrdek (“Make Moves”), Ludacris (”Get Yours”), and Carmelo Anthony (”Stay Up”). This afternoon in Ecko HQ, the Complex crew was treated to a special performance by the Tiny Toones, a breakdancing crew all the way from Cambodia. Not only was their routine sick, mixing traditional Cambodian dance with classic American b-boy style, but the crew stands for a good cause.
Since 2004, the group’s founder—a Cambodian-American b-boy from California named K.K.—has been helping underprivileged kids stay off the street by teaching them the art of breakdancing (read more about their story in this recent New York Times article). The crew is in NYC for a special performance/fundraiser on Friday night, which features DJ sets by Chris Robinson and DJ Ings, along with appearances from MC Tame One of the Artifacts and Cambodian MC Kadep.
