Spinning Your Words

300_lex.jpgNow here’s a great gadget for bicyclists that not only offers a semblance of safety, but also lets riders express their feelings on the go via a small LED light attached to the spokes. It’s called Lex, and when the wheel spins, the message becomes legible. Sounds like magic right? It’s not:

After you construct your message, all you need to do for transfer of the text to the Lex device is click a button in the application. The text is then sent via USB from your computer to the Lex device. As the bike wheel spins down the road, you are able to read the message in the blur of light created by the Lex as it spins.

Can you think of a better way to tell cabdrivers how much they suck with such pizazz?

Wired Up In the Lambo

car2.jpg
Benedict Radcliffe’s got a reputation for constructing full-sized 3D sculptures of cars out of wire. The ‘Wire Lambo,’ however, marks the first time the artist added a mobile element to one of his “vehicles.” It was made with the help of “car pedal designer” Ben Wilson. Taking cues from both recumbent and tandem bicycle design, two seats, and a drivetrain were installed, creating the world’s first pedal powered Lamborghini.

Concept Track Bike Inspired By Amphibian

frog-bike-12.jpg
frog-bikecrop.jpgAs much as we liked the DQM x Trackstar line of BMX styled fixies, they pale in comparison to this A.FrameFix concept track bike that was inspired by, of all things, a frog. This space-aged bike looks like it could whip around the rings of Saturn, yet its shape and composition are derived from nature. Even human anatomy was taken into account when designer Alex Suvajac spawned this organic-robo bike:

The lower frame portion stabilizing the crank would be extra rigid, created from injection molded titanium structured much like that of a human bone.

Hopefully it doesn’t duplicate all the characteristics of human bone, mainly, fractures and breaks.

Messenger Bag Comes With Bike Lock and Two Pouches

rtemagicc_g1950_porter_bikeset.jpg
We don’t know why every time a new messenger bag or bike lock drops it’s assumed that it’s for the fixed gear crowd, but so sayeth the Snobs. This “Fixed Bike Pack” collaboration from Porter and Gallery 1950 comes with a specially designed messenger bag, a lock that doesn’t look safe for NYC or any thief prone American city, and two pouches that you can hang off your belt loops, just cause. Plus it comes in 5 different accent colors, so you can still REALLY maintain your fierce individuality amongst like minded peers. We’re just shocked these don’t come with matching top bar pads and spoke cards. Add some anger with a little mix of crustiness and you can look and feel like a fixed gear riding fool in no time.

Ride Hard With Bicycle Boombox

ihome_slide1.jpg
Here’s a smart invention for bike enthusiasts that are sick of dangling headphones, or more importantly, not being able to hear what’s going on around them when riding bikes and listening to music. The iHome’s iH85B is basically a portable iPod dock, except this one mounts to a bike frame and also doubles as a speaker. Its rugged and impact resistant design is thanks in part to its polycarbonate enclosed case, and it clips right to your bike frame. You can then control your tunes by way of a wireless RF remote control that you can mount right on your handlebars which allows you to focus on the important things, like the road.
