On the classic “Dear Summer,” Jay-Z clearly stated, “It’s like when niggas make subliminal records/If it ain’t directed directly at me, I don’t respect it.” He may not respect it, but as our list of Hov’s sneakiest dis lines showed, he’ll definitely address it. The man we crowned as “The King of Subliminal Shots” has thrown hidden darts at everyone from Nas and Mase to 50 Cent and recent Complex cover boys, Clipse, but he’s far from a bully or overly-sensitive. How could he be when he’s taken more shots than LMFAO over the years? It’s like gettin’ at Hov has become a rite of passage for rappers new and old over the past decade.
And like Hov, each person has their own reasons and rationale for sneak dissin’, no matter how delusional or paranoid they are being. Maybe Jay wouldn’t get on a song with them? Maybe he slept with their girl? Before Beyonce, of course. Maybe it’s because while they live off advances worrying about expenditures, Hov’s a business, man?
