Best of the 2000’s: The Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Songs6:16 pm | Friday, December 4th, 2009

If you checked out our Top 100 Songs Of The 2000s countdown (click here if you missed it!), then you probably have a pretty good sense of Complex’s musical taste. We love it all: Auto-Tune anthems, over-hyped garage rock, emo-pop, funky French house, soulful slow-jams, and yes, even Soulja Boy. Put simply, we’re open-minded.
But there are definitely still some classic joints from the last decade that we wouldn’t be caught dead playing in public. Well, we’re ready to expose the jams we bump strictly with the headphones on. Promise not to laugh? Okay, here it goes—Complex’s Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Songs of the 2000s…
#10: PARIS HILTON “STARS ARE BLIND” (2006)
We wanted to hate this socialite floozy’s attempt at music so badly, but her lead single completely caught us off guard. We expected over-produced dance-pop, and instead we got this breezy reggae-lite banger.
#9: COLDPLAY “IN MY PLACE” (2002)
Coldplay are the lamest, most self-important fuck boys in popular music, but we couldn’t front on the lead single from A Rush Of Blood To The Head. If they hadn’t repeated the exact same song for the rest of their entire career, we might have actually given them a chance.
#8: KHIA “MY NECK, MY BACK” (2002)
We can’t tell you how many times we’ve had to stop ourselves from singing the hook to this one in the club.
#7: KATY PERRY “HOT N COLD” (2008)
Yeah, we put her on our cover, but it wasn’t because of her music. The repetition of “I Kissed A Girl” made us want to kill ourselves, but her electro-tinged follow-up is still an undercover favorite.
#4: AVRIL LAVIGNE “COMPLICATED” (2002)
This horribly obnoxious Canadian singer ruined punk rock’s good name by trying to pass her trite, overproduced pop songs as rebellious rock. But image aside, her debut single was stuck in our head for like two years straight. That’s gotta say something.
#3: NSYNC “GONE” (2001)
Clearly we love Justin Timberlake (he has two songs on our Top 100), but at the time, we felt really guilty about loving this stellar slow-jam, the last song he released with his former boy band.
