Best of the 2000’s: The Top 10 Women’s Style Trends

This week we brought you our Top 100 Style Trends of the decade. But we can’t sleep on our trend-setting female friends—we all know this world would be pretty lame if it weren’t for things like short-shorts, stilettos, and freak’um dresses. So, to pay homage to the opposite sex for making themselves look so appetizing, we’re back with the Top 10 Women’s Trends of the 2000s.
Granted, this list is heavily favored toward the trends that portrayed the female form in all its glory, which means we skipped shit like the furry boots that make your wifey look like a confused Eskimo. We included our favorite sexy trends, and—more importantly—the sexy women that rocked them so well. You probably have a list of your own, but stop frontin’, ours is way better. Read on for the best…
10. Big-frame Sunglasses
PIONEERS: Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, the Olsen twins
COMPLEX SAYS: There’s no better way for a chick to hide her bleary hangover face during a walk of shame. The less we see of that, the better.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

9. Pencil Skirts
PIONEERS: Hayden Panettiere, Kim Kardashian
COMPLEX SAYS: There’s always one betty in the office that everyone has the hots for, and chances are she dresses something like this…in your fantasies.
—————————————————————————————————————————————–

8. Trifey Accessories
PIONEERS: J. Lo, Teyana Taylor, Kimora Lee, Keri Hilson
COMPLEX SAYS: Word to LL—we love an around-the-way girl, even if she’s a fake one. There’s just something ’bout name plates, door knockers, and three-finger rings that says, “Sure, a dinner date at McDonalds sounds great!”
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

7. High-top sneakers
PIONEERS: Cassie, Amber Rose
COMPLEX SAYS: We love sneakers, so it’s only logical that chicks in kicks is a WIN in our book—as long as she doesn’t have WNBA-size feet.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

6. Platform Heels
PIONEERS: Beyoncé
COMPLEX SAYS: Heels instantly enhance the hind quarters of any female and add definition to leg muscles. There’s something to be said about a chick that can handle her business with heels on. They just make everything better.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

5. Cropped Shirts
PIONEERS: Keri Hilson, Cassie, Leighton Meester
COMPLEX SAYS: Ever bag a chick then bring her home only to find out she’s carrying a few extra pounds that you don’t remember being there earlier? It’s happened to the best of us. Women have made an art out of concealing their flaws, but they can’t hide a damn thing with these. She’s still probably crazy as fuck, but whatevs.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

4. Vintage cut-off jean shorts
PIONEERS: Vashtie Kola, Jessica Simpson
COMPLEX SAYS: This summer wasn’t that hot, but you would have never known from the array of Daisy Dukes out there on the skreets. Nothing shows off a dope set of gams (and possible cheekage) better than these country classics.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

3. Visible Lingerie
PIONEERS: Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Lil’ Kim, Strippers
COMPLEX SAYS: It’s visible lingerie…’nuff said.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

2. Low-cut skinny jeans
PIONEERS: Rihanna, Ciara
COMPLEX SAYS: What could be more perfect then jeans that hug tightly to every contour of a woman’s figure? Not much in our opinion. The ladies finally got it right with these; gouchos and bell bottoms were huge #FAILs.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

1. Leggings
PIONEERS: Lindsay Lohan, Ciara, Amber Rose
COMPLEX SAYS: A 4mm piece of flimsy fabric is all that separates you from everything you dream about. Leggings accentuate every curve on a girl’s body—shit can get obscene sometimes, but we ain’t complaining. Shout out to Dov Charney.

Daisy dukes were pioneered by Dukes of Hazards, worn by Britney Spears, and brought back to girls across the world by forever 21. Im not sure why yall think Pharrell’s ex ex girlfriend pioneered that trend….

It’s called giving Vash a shout out…
She knows someone at Complex either directly or indirectly, she runs a cute little blog with pictures of herself (& not much else) that probably has a solid base so they can count on her to link this crap, etc.
This is all just BS fluff to add content to internet sites & magazines.
I mean, they have Amber pioneering high-tops? Lohan with leggings? etc…
It’s all a joke, poorly researched & thrown together… don’t get too twisted over it. It’s not that deep.

& look at the company all these girls are in.
NONE of them style pioneers.
ALL of them (sans Olsens & Vash) have stylists that are lame & actually take their dummied down cues from real pioneers…
So I mean really
Classic Complex lowest common denominator BS for the masses.
SUPERDUPER November 15, 2009 at 1:07 pm
first off, by pioneer they mean a person who rocked the trend, and rocked it well. It sounds like “?” has a little too much free time on his hands. Ever heard of a job homie?
mad4truth November 15, 2009 at 5:20 pm
yo “?” why you reading comments on complex…..you part of the lowest common denominator bull shit mass crowd then…..this site is fun, easy and don’t take itsself too serious…nice quick break in the day for me and i bet you too….stop the hate and enjoy and then keep it moving…
