The 10 Best Internet Music Videos of the 2000’s

Continuing our ongoing Best of the 2000s series, this week we counted down the Top 100 Internet Videos of the decade. With the overabundance of viral goodness, we didn’t have enough room to highlight all the amazing internet-based music videos that have dropped over the course of the Aughts. Don’t worry, we didn’t forget!

In the first half of the decade, D.I.Y., low budget videos had a home on SMACK DVDs, BET Uncut and local video shows like Video Music Box. But after the rise of YouTube in 2005, and the cancellation of BET Uncut in 2006, the hip-hop world finally warmed up to the idea of releasing music videos exclusively for the internet, brimming with not-safe-for-TV content. #10: Cam’ron “Curtis” (2007)
When it comes to beefing in the internet age, you can thank Cam and 50 for popularizing the low-budget “diss video.” Curtis’ “Funeral Music” came first (shot in 50’s Connecticut garage—LOL!), but Killa got the best of him in this response, where he got all of Harlem holler out the now-infamous nickname “Currrrrrrtisssss!”

#9: Master P “Gutta Time” (2007)
The former No Limit general was never known for making political statements, so it’s no surprise that this video turned heads when it dropped. Featuring a group of hooded, 40-drinking KKK members playing basketball against an all-black team, it was probably the last thing people expected. To be honest, we still don’t quite understand what P was trying to say with this one, but its entertaining nonetheless.

#8: Kanye West “Throw Some D’s (Remix)” (2007)
Yeezy got in on the viral video fun with this implant-obsessed remix of Rich Boy’s 2006 hit. Starring “Kanye’s old-ass cousin,” this quirky clip stood out from the pack of low-budget street videos with its clever use of stop-motion animation and puppet show plot.

#7: Scott Storch “Built Like Dat” (2007)
What you thought Scottie was just gonna sit back and let shit ride?? Nah, son. After Timbaland threw a shot at him in his song “Give It To Me,” the cocaine-addicted white boy hit back with this over-the-top diss video. Featuring a laundry list of rap video cliches—yachts, “pretty” girls, champagne, ice grills, your mans’n'them—”Built Like That” was pure self-delusional comedy. Remember when this guy was in The Roots?

#6: Consequence “Uncle Rahiem” (2007)
Thanks to his partnership with Rik Cordero, Cons has shot a video for damn near every song on his 2006 debut Don’t Quit Your Day Job!, releasing most directly to the interweb. But their first collabo is definitely their best, starring rap legend DMC as Cons’s derelict Uncle. And here we thought he was the nice one.
