Avascular necrosis is also known as Osteonecrosis and it literally means "bone death" bone means osteo and necrosis means death. It is a disease that causes pain 24/7 and does not let up and eventually the bones have to be replaced. Along with the athletes named above Brett Favre also has the disease.
