The Complex 7: Shoshana Bush

The summer of 2009 brings Complex a lot of things to love: Eminem is back, Jessica Biel is stripping and the Wayans Brothers are making a new parody, Dance Flick, out on Friday. (We’re sure you saw one of the 10,345,642 trailer spots.) While the W. Beez are always good for a chuckle, we couldn’t help but notice the stunning leading lady of the flick, Shoshana Bush.

Originally from tony Tiburon in Northern Cali, the 20-year-old actor decided to move to L.A. last year to further her acting career. In Dance Flick, she plays Megan, a character based on Julia Stiles’ role in Save the Last Dance—and we much prefer Shoshana’s around-the-way-goofball to Stiles’ earnest WG-in-the-ghetto. Shosh (as we’re already calling her) stopped by to chill with us recently and answer The Complex 7. Read on to learn her favorite rap album, what footwear you better not wear around her, and her most embarrassing childhood crushes…

#1: WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER ONE DEAL BREAKER FOR A POTENTIAL BOYFRIEND?

Shoshana says: I would probably say not being a gentlemen. I grew up with my dad treating me like a princess, so I expect the same respect.

#2: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RAP ALBUM?

Shoshana says: Of all time? My first song was Will Smith’s “Welcome to Miami.” But now I’d say I love Kanye’s stuff. He’s taking rap to a whole different level. I love his style. My favorite one is the most recent album, 808s & Heartbreak. When I heard him singing I was like, “Alright this is something new.” So I’m really happy he’s doing that now.

#3: WHAT’S ONE PIECE OF FOOTWEAR THAT WOULD MAKE YOU COMPLETELY DISMISS A MAN AS A POTENTIAL HOOK-UP?

Shoshana says: [Laughs.] I would definitely say sandals! Sandals freak me out. Probably because I’m not exactly a foot fan. I mean I love shoes, but sandals are just…painful. Especially socks and sandals, that really freaks me out! If you’re gonna do that, why wear sandals? Just wear shoes. I see it a lot in L.A. because it’s warm I guess, but it’s just…lazy.

#4: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD OR HANGOVER REMEDY?

Shoshana says: Comfort food, is…[whispering] McDonald’s [Laughs.] Oh, that’s so bad but I figure if you’re gonna go crappy you might as well go really crappy. My favorite is the no. 2 [Ed. Note: Holla!] which is two hamburgers and fries. I’m also obsessed with Oreos. I don’t really know what it is but I can eat a whole bag, especially the double-stuffed. They have an Oreo McFlurry, they’re so good!

#5: WHAT’S THE MOST EFFECTIVE APHRODISIAC FOR YOU?

Shoshana says: What’s yours?! [Laughs.] I’d go with scents. It’s easy to see a picture or hear a song, and say, “Oh yeah.” But when you smell somebody and you haven’t seen them in a while and if you’re just walking and you happen to smell that same smell it can take you back to that same person and time.

#6: WHO IS A CHILDHOOD CRUSH YOU CAN’T BELIEVE YOU HAD?

Shoshana says: I can’t believe I had a crush on the Hanson Brothers. Man, I loved them! I think the Jonas Brothers are the new Hanson Brothers. Or Jonathan Freakin’ Taylor Thomas! I also liked Macaulay Culkin, I still have a secret crush on him. But definitely Jonathan, J.T.T. I remember that in middle school he was the shit.

#7: WHO IS YOUR WOMAN CRUSH?

Shoshana says: I know this is so predictable, but Angelina Jolie is so sexy. She’s just beautiful and to me she represents woman power because she’s helping the world, has her shit together, and she is just so cool. She is stunning, I don’t think there’s one flaw in her.
