When Blogging Goes Wrong: Meet Aaron Reid

These days blogs are like G-Shocks, everyone’s got one. Some are good, some are bad. Some are hilariously bad. We recently came across one that fell close to the latter: The Aaron Reid Experience. If the name sounds familiar, you must have caught his episode of MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen where he had the 40/40 club filled with complete strangers. If it doesn’t, allow us to introduce you.
Aaron Reid is the 19-year old son of famed record executive L.A. Reid (TLC, Usher, Outkast, Def Jam'big money). His blog is exactly what you would expect from a kid who grew up around rap stars, Bentley drops and iced out watch bezels. It chronicles his “lifestyle,” which includes photos of trips to various islands, celebrity encounters, plans for the future and, of course, videos of Aaron being Aaron.
Then there’s the other stuff: the bragging, the thoughtless thought posts, the odd advice columns. We don’t mean to pick on the young dude, and we have the utmost respect for his pops’ accomplishments, but at 19, A.R. should really know better. So before he continues along this path to Ridicule Road, we thought we’d lend a hand and impart some knowledge on the young blogger, and to bloggers everywhere, about what not to do with their personal blogs. Pay attention.
DON’T BRAG ABOUT THINGS YOU DON’T DESERVE DURING A RECESSION
• It’s a recession, everybody’s broke. It’d be in your best interest not floss all the stuff your wealthy pops bought you while your classmates are down the hall praying for that Pell grant to come through and cashing in cans left over from drunken weekends. Just ask your boy Soulja, stick-up kids aren’t playing these days.
IF YOU OWN A MAC BOOK AND ARE BORED. NEVER EVER EVER DO THIS
• We get it, you have a lot of fitteds and like to dress up like Kanye, Usher, Jay-Z, T.I, John Legend (WTF?) Rick Ross, and whoever else you’re lip-synching to. A video like this will get you clowned harder than inaugural Complex Ball Boy Of The Week, Sean Kingston.
NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS, UNLESS YOU HAVE CONTRIBUTED SOMETHING TO SOCIETY.
• And by contributing something to society, we don’t mean curating your lil homie Diggy Simmons‘ blog. We know it’s your personal blog, but at least try to offer up something better than your boycotting of Ovaltine because the can is ugly. Especially if you claim your life is on some “Good Life” shit. Come on, B. Also, refrain, at all costs, from taking contemplative photo’s of yourself in bed. Not a good look. Ever.
DON’T ADVISE PEOPLE ON HOW TO BE SOMETHING YOU’RE NOT
• Just because you got your Cameron Crowe on and met a bunch of ‘em, doesn’t make you a rock star. You’re about as famous as Nefu Da Don. Who? Exactly. Therefore you can’t tell people how to be rock stars when you’re not even, almost famous.
YOUR DAD’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS AREN’T YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
• It’s one thing to be proud of your fam and all, but parading your successful father’s possessions around as if you somehow helped him attain them is weaker. It’s sort of like how Rod Stewert’s son got on Celebrity Rehab just because he’s Rod Stewart’s son. Shit’s disgusting. Call us when you actually get that “first hit” you’ve been talking about. With any luck, you could be the 2009 Chilly Tee.

This is comical. Yes, rich kids who act as if they earned the money that their parents or grandparents worked to make will always be irritating to us average folk. Still, the bigger question is is it the kid’s fault or is it the fault of the parents for tacitly encouraging materialism and not teaching their seed a sense of humility? Aaron is a good kid and is blessed by the lord. He also attends Morehouse College & devotes some of his time to speak to younger children. So dont pop off at the mouth and say he isnt doing anything with his life because he is taking care of business before he takes care of the BIG BUSINESS!

I’ll be real with you though, i know so many first generation rich kids that end up doing nothing with their lives ’cause its almost impossible to live up to their parents achievements. Either that, or their just so spoiled with material things that its tough for them to buckle down and focus on things that really bring them joy. Sucks for you, brother, but you’re young and there IS hope for you.
I dont know you or what you’ve been through but im going to be audacious and make a suggestion to AR – join the peace corps or something of that nature for two years when you get out of college. Sacrifice yourself a little bit, only then will you really find your lifes purpose. You may, in fact have one and i may be wasting my time writing this but i highly doubt it because you have entirely too much time on your hands to talk shit and post it on the internet. I will never knock a man for growing up with a silver spoon in his mouth but i will knock you for wasting your life fetishizing commodities like Louis trunks. Why in gods name do you care about them? It’s really funny how so many people can have countless opinions about someone they don’t know. NONE of you know him. Yes you may have SEEN him, or HEARD of the things that others have told you about him, but I guarantee you that no one who has held a conversation with Aaron for longer than one minute would have anything negative to say about him. Just as you have a lifestyle, so does he! If you look back at some of the older blog posts, even when NO ONE commented or read the blogs he wrote, he kept going because he doesn’t want to be known for only “spending Daddy’s cash.” Aaron will go places because HE wants to. And sure if his father just happens to be a great foot in the door then so be it! He’s enjoying his life and obviously those of you who have negative comments aren’t enjoying yours too much. It makes me laugh because this is EXACTLY what Aaron needs for his blog, you guys talk shit and he gets more and more hits and i give him nothing but props. Just because about 0.0001% of the entire world has something to say about his blog doesn’t mean that anything in his world is going to change. This H-square dude as well as all of the AR sympathizers are absolutely retarded and illogical. I know AR personally too and I know that anyone who sympathizes with the way he chooses to live his life must be someone with a little shit on their upper lip since they’re obviously just trying to be in good rapport with his daddy for the future. Obviously people are products of their environments but that does not excuse personal irresponsibility, and AR should’ve learned that by now. I went to a private school school like AR’s with kids whose parents paid millions to get them into ivy leagues, but never have I been more disgraced than when I found out that AR was going to Morehouse- that association simply taints all of the legacies of TRULY great men such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mr. Spike Lee. Sad thing is, AR will end up famous; its inevitable due to his connections and willing exposure. But food for thought: Before he blabs with his triple chin about reppin’ god and being a spiritual being maybe he should consider that jesus might not brag about his father’s louis vuitton trunks, nor would he make many of the effortless lifestyle choices that AR has. We can say all we want here but I find solace in knowing that in the end he will have to deal with God.
