When Blogging Goes Wrong: Meet Aaron Reid

These days blogs are like G-Shocks, everyone’s got one. Some are good, some are bad. Some are hilariously bad. We recently came across one that fell close to the latter: The Aaron Reid Experience. If the name sounds familiar, you must have caught his episode of MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen where he had the 40/40 club filled with complete strangers. If it doesn’t, allow us to introduce you.
Aaron Reid is the 19-year old son of famed record executive L.A. Reid (TLC, Usher, Outkast, Def Jam'big money). His blog is exactly what you would expect from a kid who grew up around rap stars, Bentley drops and iced out watch bezels. It chronicles his “lifestyle,” which includes photos of trips to various islands, celebrity encounters, plans for the future and, of course, videos of Aaron being Aaron.
Then there’s the other stuff: the bragging, the thoughtless thought posts, the odd advice columns. We don’t mean to pick on the young dude, and we have the utmost respect for his pops’ accomplishments, but at 19, A.R. should really know better. So before he continues along this path to Ridicule Road, we thought we’d lend a hand and impart some knowledge on the young blogger, and to bloggers everywhere, about what not to do with their personal blogs. Pay attention.
DON’T BRAG ABOUT THINGS YOU DON’T DESERVE DURING A RECESSION
• It’s a recession, everybody’s broke. It’d be in your best interest not floss all the stuff your wealthy pops bought you while your classmates are down the hall praying for that Pell grant to come through and cashing in cans left over from drunken weekends. Just ask your boy Soulja, stick-up kids aren’t playing these days.
IF YOU OWN A MAC BOOK AND ARE BORED. NEVER EVER EVER DO THIS
• We get it, you have a lot of fitteds and like to dress up like Kanye, Usher, Jay-Z, T.I, John Legend (WTF?) Rick Ross, and whoever else you’re lip-synching to. A video like this will get you clowned harder than inaugural Complex Ball Boy Of The Week, Sean Kingston.
NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS, UNLESS YOU HAVE CONTRIBUTED SOMETHING TO SOCIETY.
• And by contributing something to society, we don’t mean curating your lil homie Diggy Simmons‘ blog. We know it’s your personal blog, but at least try to offer up something better than your boycotting of Ovaltine because the can is ugly. Especially if you claim your life is on some “Good Life” shit. Come on, B. Also, refrain, at all costs, from taking contemplative photo’s of yourself in bed. Not a good look. Ever.
DON’T ADVISE PEOPLE ON HOW TO BE SOMETHING YOU’RE NOT
• Just because you got your Cameron Crowe on and met a bunch of ‘em, doesn’t make you a rock star. You’re about as famous as Nefu Da Don. Who? Exactly. Therefore you can’t tell people how to be rock stars when you’re not even, almost famous.
YOUR DAD’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS AREN’T YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
• It’s one thing to be proud of your fam and all, but parading your successful father’s possessions around as if you somehow helped him attain them is weaker. It’s sort of like how Rod Stewert’s son got on Celebrity Rehab just because he’s Rod Stewart’s son. Shit’s disgusting. Call us when you actually get that “first hit” you’ve been talking about. With any luck, you could be the 2009 Chilly Tee.

Regarding alot of these comments I dunno, but seriously these kids need to stop bragging it doesn’t look good on them (it’s basically abusing legacies left by their parents).
Yea it’s cool to be into this stuff, it’s another to just brag about the stuff, they probably don’t even appreciate these things the same way celebs like Kanye West do (you know, the design, art, creativity, and the hard work that got them to have these things).
But it’s whatever, I love this post but at the same time I wouldn’t have bothered posting about kids like this (they’re irrelevant, especially to this blog).

I think Complex’s reason behind this post is to not trash A.R. but to simply say that dude people are stuggling like they never have before and for some kid to be all up and flaunting the stacks that his father has is a little disgusting. Like no hate on dude for being wealthy but for real people are doing mad crazy ish just to eat so fall back a little with the blatant ” I got more stacks and I got this I got that” for a bit. Never be ashamed or who you are or what you got but just be a little more respectful of others and the times we are in……

Went to high school with him. It’s just new money behavior. you can’t really blame him. He can’t help it. As for the rest of you, stop hating. He has money, he feels the need to let people know, and if you are uncomfortable with it (because you can’t afford that stuff) then don’t visit his blog! Honestly its probably not for you to see. and i don’t think he is showing off, he is just proving to the world, that he has money unlike most of his kind- its a common trend. I personally dont surport new money behavior, but it is what it is, and i have to live with it.

wow this is too much hate.it is unfair to judge someone before you even know them. Aaron goes to school with me at Morehouse College and he is like my brother.Our families love each other and are too much alike. Both of our fathers are successful entrepreneurs that started from nothing and have made much money in their lives through hard work and determination.We are both blessed with the finer things in life (Aaron moreso) but who are u to be jealous of him and try to put him on b last for his blog. He is one of the most respectful and realest people i’ve ever met and its sad when people who are not as fortunate just hate for no reason.LOL i pity yall.keep it up though it only makes him better.

For all the people yapping about how we should not judge A.R. because we dont “know” him.
well.. we know what he has chosen to reveal of himself via his blog and sorry, but he comes of as a bit of a nouveau riche twat. If he doesnt want to be known for spending daddy cash as someone said, why does that seem to be the topic of all his posts?
I suppose im going to be labeled a poor hater for this. Or im someone who’s parents taught me to value more than the material things in live.
( and no im not poor). But who should bear the blame here, the child or the parent.
Warren Buffet said he does not believe in the notion of winning the “ovarian lottery” and as such he only pays for the basics, education etc, for his kids. Bill Gates is giving his fortune away to charity. ( notice how you never see any fortune listers children blogging about foolishness) It may benefit young reid to ask himself why that is.

If you really want to show us something..put up videos on you studying and getting a diploma. Doing some community service. Hell applying for a job would do. While I understand your point about A.R.’s blog being personal, the fact is that he has chosen to make it public and that makes him open to scrutiny. Although the point that’s being made seems to be going over your collective heads, let me just put it this way: It’s called “taste” as in something being in good taste or poor taste. AR has exemplified the latter. And for the persons who attend school with him who are defending his behavior you should note that his is a behavior often associated with the neveau riche”

based on what the people who know him are saying vs what the people who dont know him, it seems as if this dude has a completely different online life then real life. he needs to figure out which life he wants to live and stick with it. yeah he may be cool in real life but online he is appearing otherwise and that right there is disturbing
