6 Sports Managers Who Hired Themselves To Coach

BRYAN MURRAY REPLACES JOHN PADDOCK
• In February 2008, less than a year after the Ottawa Senators “promoted” coach Murray to general manager because he failed to beat the Anaheim Ducks in the Finals, he fired Paddock'his replacement and former assistant'and took the gig right back (Paddy’s team had struggled after a 15-2 start). The only thing Paddock, who’s currently coaching in the AHL, plans to assist Murray with now? Deeeeeeeez pucks.

What no Lou Lamoriello? He has done it twice now. Both times with playoff contending teams.
Heck, he fired Claude Julien with 3 games left in the season and the second best record in the Eastern Conference.

You omitted the Spur’s Greg Popovich, who took over as coach from Bob Hill in ‘96-’97 season, has won four NBA championships since, and relinguished G.M. responsibilities to R.C. Buford along the way.
