When Video Game Weapons Attack In Real Life

videogameopener_480.jpg
Here at Complex, we love video games as much as the next dude. We bet money on ‘em, play together on Xbox Live, talk shit over ‘em. But that’s really the extent of our fandom. After the console goes off, we go about our lives. As you should. Because when that line between real life and fantasy become blurred, shit can get hairier than Rosie’s upper lip.

Today we came across a video of a dude who made the chainsaw gun from Gears of War. While that gun comes in handy in the game, what the hell would anyone need with it in real life? Damn if we know, we just think it’s dope. But that’s not the first time someone has recreated something from a video game. Take a look below to see five of our favorite recreations…

CHAINSAW GUN FROM GEARS OF WAR

We’re not sure what anyone would need with an AR-15 machine gun mated to a modified chainsaw, but it’s pretty awesome.

RAILGUN FROM RED FACTION

Rail guns have been used in not only in video games, but science fiction for a while now. They’re usually one of the last weapons a player gets in the game, and for good reason. They’re crazy powerful. Instead of using gunpowder a rail gun uses magnetic “rails” to launch a solid, nonexplosive projectile at incredible speed. Only thing is, they’re much bigger than the little handguns seen in games. Back in January, BAE Systems dropped off a functional, 32-megajoule Electro-Magnetic Laboratory Rail Gun (32-MJ LRG) to the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va. for testing. You know, just incase shit happens.

TROJAN EXOSKELETON SUIT

Canadian inventor Troy Hurtubise never cited Halo as the inspiration behind the Trojan, but he really didn’t need to. The $15,000 get up which Hurtubise calls the “first ballistic, full exoskeleton body suit of armor” looks like it was created in the Bungie studios. Made from high-impact plastic lined with ceramic bullet protection over ballistic foam, the Trojan has stopped shots from an elephant gun and supposedly can stop real bullets. We’ll take his word for it.

ENERGY SWORD FROM HALO 2

No, it’s not made from plasma, but this stain-steel, life sized replica that went up on eBay for $230 could do some damage is someone runs up on you trying to gank your candy on Halloween. We doubt you can sneak it in the club though.

IRON MAN SUIT

Though this suit is just a costume (meaning there’s no armor protection, jet propulsion or hand rockets, loser), it’s by far the sickest costume we’ve ever seen'it looks realer than penitentiary steel. That’s not to say we’d actually spend the time to create or actually wear this thing, c’mon when’s the last time someone got any while rocking a Iron Man costume? But we still give props nonetheless.
