These days, some of the best bands don’t resemble their names. Not like we’re about playing up stereotypes (unless you’re Trifey) but the vagaries of names like the Black Kids (2 out of 5 are of color), Tokyo Police Club (Canadian), and now The Muslims will catch anyone off guard when you’re looking for authenticity. So the name, along with the garb of the four dudes (including their super-agressive drummer) from San Diego, stood out at last week’s CMJ Music Marathon, looking as snappy as a brother slinging bean pies. Ok, maybe not as formal, but the agressive drummer and the sing-a-long ease of their depressive song titles was easy on the ears as their attire was on the eyes.
