‘Legendary’ Producer Talks Video Game Inspirations

Bad news: Gamecock’s new game Legendary was supposed to ship this week, but it’s been pushed back to November (4 for the 360; 14 for PS3; 18 for PC).
Good news: To hold you off until then, we have an interview with producer John Garcia-Shelton of Spark Unlimited about his inspirations for the first-person shooter, which updates the Pandora’s Box myth in modern-day NYC and London.
For John’s top 5 gaming influences and the latest Legendary trailer, see below…

5. TWISTED METAL 2 (Sony, 1996 – PlayStation)
“As far as visceral, fast-paced, twitch-combat goes, it's one of the best games ever.”

4. CLIVE BARKER’S UNDYING (EA, 2001 – PC)
“It had a really great ability, for an action game, to set up a scare.”

3. QUAKE II (id/Activision, 1997 – PC)
“You really had to be nimble if you wanted to survive, which we're trying to do with Legendary.”

2. HALF-LIFE and HALF-LIFE 2 (Valve, 1998, 2004 – PC)
“This series has great pacing and puzzles, and some of the best designed levels of any game.”

1. METROID PRIME (Nintendo, 2002 – GameCube)
“It had great enemies who would fight back on equal footing, which doesn't happen in most first-person shooters.”
