Patti Labelle “System”

from Back To Now

Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash'the original members of Labelle'might be a little over-the-hill, but that doesn’t mean we can’t acknowledge good grown folks music when we hear it. To anyone born after ‘76 (when the group disbanded), this group was responsible for the original “Lady Marmalade,” which was reworked in 2001 by Christina Aguilera, Mya, Missy Elliot, and Lil Kim. So their reunion album, Back To Now (in stores today) produced by Lenny Kravitz and Wyclef Jean, is kind of a big deal. “System,” produced by Nona, is an old school throwback, ripe with funky guitar licks likely to inspire a new generation of sample-hungry hip-hoppers.
