Percy Carey’s Comic Cuties: Dana Davidson

[Each Wednesday, Complex columnist Percy Carey a.k.a. MF Grimm dives into the world of comic books with industry interviews, reviews and more.]
To all of you comic book geeks who were about to hang themselves DON’T DO IT!!! Pull the noose from around your neck and get to know a sexy woman who understands you and shares your love for comics books. You didn’t believe women like this exist? Well think again. A regular feature I’ll be doing is “Comic Cuties,” where I interview comic-loving women. You fellas owe me big time for this column. Now sit back and fall in love.
Meet Dana Davidson'she’s a film producer, director, actress, journalist and drop dead gorgeous; and most of all a woman who loves guys who loves comics. Dana was gracious enough to share her thoughts on what it takes to be her ideal comic book dream man. So get to know Dana and then see if you’re the comic book man she’s been fantasizing about (That’s right we can be treated like rock stars too!). Read the interview and leave comments and questions below…
Percy Carey: Where were you born and when did you know that you loved comic books?
Dana Davidson: I was born in Los Angeles, California. I realized I had a love for comic books when I was, I have no idea how old I was but I think It was before I was 10 years old. A friend of the family owned a comic books store and they gave me my first comic, ‘Death.’ Which I fell in love with.
Percy Carey: What do you do for a living?
Dana Davidson: This is a hard question for me, being a Gemini with a Gemini rising, hokey pokey superstitious stuff, right? That being said, I’m seriously a Jane of all trades. I am a writer for a downtown Los Angeles magazine called, ‘Citizen LA’ as well as for www.fatally-yours.com where I review movies, interview people, and write articles. Currently I am shopping scripts, writing a pulp novel, among other writing endeavors. I also work in post production in the film industry, model and act in my spare time, and just for fun, I make experimental films, and horror and comedy shorts. I have worked every aspect of film/television making, from PA to producer and everything in between. I prefer to have a more freelance and temporary type schedule so I can live my life to the fullest and not be bound to, what to me is grueling, the schedule of the 9am-5pm life.
Percy Carey: What’s your favorite comic book title?
Dana Davidson: The Sandman. Hands down. The first 6 books are my favorite, Neil Gaiman is such a brilliant writer.
Percy Carey: Who’s your favorite writer?
Dana Davidson: Another tough question! Gosh. Well, in comics my favorite is Neil Gaiman. In other writings, I’ve gotta say Charles Bukowski, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Hunter S. Thompson, and Ayn Rand.
Percy Carey: Who’s your favorite comic book illustrator?
Dana Davidson: That is a really hard question to answer… I’ve got friends who are illustrators… Well, how about all of the illustrators that are good!
Percy Carey: Who’s your favorite comic book character and why?
Dana Davidson: I would be Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams from ‘Sandman’ because he is wise, mysterious, powerful, fun, and sexy. I’d marry him in a heart beat.

Percy Carey: If you could be any comic book super hero who would it be? and why?
Dana Davidson: I’d be Lobo because he is so fucked, so powerful, so interesting, so ridiculously hilarious, that a life like that can only make one stronger, more beautiful, more insane to be able to experience things even more fully. Wait, you said super hero… hmmm… Well, his entire planet had to die right? I mean, the guy was bored and needed something to do! Seriously, (as in not seriously) the main character has to stay entertained otherwise we are bored as well. Hmmm. That was so insensitive of me to say, I am going to hell…Ha! How about, see this is a hard one for me since I am into the bad guys. I am picking two. Hellboy and Ironman, Wait, take that back, Buffy is a comic book now. I’d be Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer cause the scene in the television show where she and Spike finally have sex, while they are falling through the breaking apart building, is so raw and rad. I’d be Buffy and kick some ass, although I haven’t had time to read the comic, like I said, I’m going to hell.
Percy Carey: Which comic book character would you consider your ideal dream man and why?
Dana Davidson: Go ahead and call me crazy but I’d say Lobo, he is hilarious and a killer, what more could a girl ask for. Any comic book character that is an outlaw, a biker, and an anti-hero, has my heart. In real life I try my hardest to not fall for the bad boys, the tattooed, motorcycle riding, hardened men, but gotta say, that’s what is familure to me, those were the guys I grew up with, and what I find sexy. You know, in my experience those men can be the most loyal friends a girl could hope for, and that is what is sexy, it’s the loyalty, the passion, the anger, the life experience, the feeling of community and taking care of your own. That’s what gets me off, so to me that is the type of guy I always end up with. Sigh. Even though I try to not fall in love with them, I love being their girl. I’d be Lobo’s girl, but only if my character had the power to murder him at any second and he was aware of this, and if he had the security to leave me the fuck alone when I am busy, and I am busy a lot. A lot of people have a hard time with that one.
Percy Carey: What do you love about men who are into comics?
Dana Davidson: Men who are into comics tend to read, they are into things that are tactile, they like to touch, to feel like they are a part of something. I think that too many people these days don’t take the time to read, don’t take the time to feel, to touch (In an appropriate way). Books are a passion of mine and have always been a big part of my life. Knowledge is power, even it it’s fantasy, and can help us to further examine existence, ourselves, and others. Comic readers read, they have imagination, and understand fantasy.
Percy Carey: Who do you think would win a fight between Batman and Moon Knight?
Dana Davidson: Hmmm. Batman vs Moon Knight. Well they both have gadgets that I am sure they are good at fiddling with, seeing as how they fiddle with themselves often, but, I’d say, that in this fight they will work up a great sweat until Morpheus (from Sandman) interviens, bringing them into the dreaming world and plays with them like the little toys that they are, and have been merched into, until he is bored and passes them onto one of his less kind siblings.
Percy Carey: How can the readers get in contact with you and learn more about you?
Dana Davidson: You can learn more about me on MySpace, YouTube, IMDB, Twitter and My Website. Feel free to add me on Myspace, YouTube and Twitter. You can search my name and see some of my writing work on these websites: www.citizenla.com, www.fatally-yours.com.
