Asians run delis like Jews run Hollywood. Yeah, so what? It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We’re more offended that Bobby Lee and Dr. Ken Jeong were so underused in Pineapple Express. What a fucking waste.
2002: Shaq welcomes Yao to the NBA
RACIST RATING:
People gotta stop taking what comes out of Shaq’s mouth seriously. Dude’s a goofball and sometimes says prick-ish things, but it’s never out of malice (outside of his ass-tasting freestyles). Besides, Aries Spears doing Shaq is better than any imitation Shaq will ever come up with.

Adidas got caught in a shitstorm after they released a limited-edition shoe with a Chinese caricature on the tongue. The shoe was designed by noted graf artist Barry “Twist” McGee, and guess what folks? He’s half-Chinese! He gets a pass. We’re more offended that the shoe is ugly as fuck.

Great job with your idiotic comments about Spain being a racist country. I’m sure that comes from first-hand experience from your cultured,well-traveled staff. In case you were wondering, the racism towards black players is not unique to Spain. In fact, it is more of a problem in Eastern Europe. And these chants, etc. are the work of a small percentage of fans.

Spain, and Sicily are arguably the only European nations to, at one time in there history, be conquered by invaders from Africa (The Moors in Spain, Carthaginians in Sicily)So it’s no wonder that these two countries have twisted views about people of color. @Jack: I read your blog and I would advise you to look up a definition of racism because it goes far beyond acknowledging a difference between people of different ethnicities. You said you wanted to look at the root of the word without positive or negative connotations but you didn’t discuss that this is difficult to do or even give an adequate reason to do so. You should have delved into the meaning of the suffix. -ism denotes a specific ideology that is driven by race which is almost always negative. So yes, racism is all bad. Acknowledging differences is different from building a system of beliefs around them.

No mention of great Asian stars coming to Hollywood and being made into sidekicks (who never get the girl)? No mention of any anti Asian slurs being made all throughout “Romeo Must Die” or scores of other movies? No mention of the upcoming DragonBall, Akira or Chun Li from Street Fighter movies all sans Asians in the lead roles?
