Microsoft Unveils The Sphere Touch Screen

sphere_opener.jpgWhenever the words “touch screen” are brought up, everyone automatically thinks of the iPhone. And, yeah it is the handheld that shifted the way people thought of their phones and it gave people their first experience with multi-touch. But Apple isn’t the only company pushing the boundaries of the technology. Their long-time rival, Microsoft, has been researching touch screen tech for years. The fruit of their labor has been demonstrated in their Surface platform, which can be found in some AT&T stores as info kiosks. Recently, they took the wraps off another touch screen project of theirs called The Sphere

With a spherical display sourced from Global Imagination and the same tech found in the Surface, the Sphere allows users to run and manipulate a number of different programs like a picture viewer and a world globe with the touch of a finger. And while the Sphere looks dope, we can’t imagine what the hell anyone would use it for besides teaching kids geography or playing a big game of Sid Meier’s Civilization. It’s reported that there’s no plans to commercially sell the $10,000 Sphere, so for now you’ll have to settle for a video of it below.
