Capsule Trade Show Highlights Pt. I

Yesterday Complex hit up the third annual Capsule NYC tradeshow, to see who’s about to make some noise in the menswear market. Held in the quirkiest of locations (an old neo-gothic synagogue in the LES), it’s appropriate that the show previews only the most high-minded and fashion-forward independent mens lines out there, without delving into some of the candy-assed brands you’ll see at Magic this August.

As per usual, old favorites like Clae, Peg Leg, and Penfield had a strong showing, while fresh blood like Hot Air and Schmoove also repped their set. Although many brands were showing their future goods for the Spring/Summer 2009 seasons, the venue was plentiful of dope products that are available now. Hit the jump to get familiar (if you’re not already) with the brands and their new pieces that stood out from the rest.

Cavern

Born out of Los Angeles in 2005, Cavern features hand-drawn graphics and a sun-bleached palette. Starting out as only tee-shirts, they’ve recently expanded their line to a full range of threads. Look out for their super-soft, vaguely acid-wash print graphic tees for Spring 2009. Cavern is sold at Odin and Oak NYC.

Creative Recreation

Creative Recreation isn’t new to the game, and they continue to mature as a premium sneaker line. For fall, they’ve shelved the skittles colorups and went straight black-on-black for their O.G model, the Cesario. In addition to upgrading past models, the brand will also drop a made-in Italy collection for Spring 2009, that utilizes luxe Italian leathers.

Naked & Famous Denim

This Canadian denim line uses only “rare and raw” (no pause!) Japanese denim. Keeping up with the ongoing trend of going back to the basics, their jeans are simple, straightforward, and strictly selvedge. You won’t find any ridiculous ass-embroidery with this line, and with funny fits like “Slim Guy” and “Weird Guy” this brand’s tongue is firmly implanted in it’s cheek. The line is currently available at Barney’s.
