How To Demolish A Building One Floor At A Time

When it comes to tearing down buildings, we’ve always been big fans of the Blow Shit Up Club. But it turns out there’s a different method that’s just as cool in its own right.

Over in Tokyo, architecture/construction firm Kajima Corporation is tearing down a couple of its company’s buildings from the ground up by repeatedly removing the first floor and replacing its support columns with jacks that are then lowered to the ground. The technique is called “Daruma-Otasha” after a traditional Japanese kids’ game (like Jenga in reverse) and it’s obviously a lot less dusty than a traditional demo.
