Mercedes’ SL65 Fades To Black

When the news broke that McLaren Mercedes’ star Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton drove a Benz GL truck, most were puzzled. Sure, we’d snatch the keys faster than it takes Yung Berg to make an apology video, but we’re just journalists—Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, is the best rookie driver Formula 1 has seen in years. We expected him to be pushin’ something fast, exotic and menacing. Something like the new Mercedes Benz SL65 Black Series.
Like the other Black Series cars, the SL got put on a carbon fiber diet to bring its total weight down to 4,123 pounds (551 pounds lighter than the standard SL). Under its vented hood lies the same twin-turbo’d V12 that’s in the regular SL65, only this one has been tweaked to spit out 57 more ponies, bringing the power up to 670. With only 350 being made and a price tag of $320,000, you’ll have to be a “somebody” to cop one. Lewis, we think it’s time you traded in the GL, homie. Check out more photos and a video of the SL65 Black ripping around a track below.
