Brand Profile: Create Build Destroy

Lately, the natural response to “new t-shirt company” is a quick roll of the eyes—that’s why Create Build Destroy gets major props for actually bringing fresh new product to an over-saturated market. The brand began as “Create Clothing” in the winter of 2007 when Tyler Ben-Amotz began hand-printing t-shirts and slinging them to his friends in Tribeca. Ben-Amotz then teamed up with his cousin (and current partner) Alex Hollender who helped with brand development and the business side of things. When it came to choosing a label name, the twosome wanted something that matched their artistic vision. As they describe it:
“Within the foundation and framework of any idea, lie the seeds of destruction. In order for an evolution of ideas to occur one must be able to destroy the previous codes and laws they built upon on and create something new. Our name basically speaks for itself, and represents the entire life-cycle of an idea, and additionally speaks to the idea that without destruction, or a decomposition of old ideas, there is no opportunity for new things to arise.”
The collection is currently available at Atmos NY, Blue & Cream, Union, Secret Society in Queens, Vinnies Styles in Brooklyn, and Kingsbury in L.A. Peep their Summer 2008 pieces below.
